Bike camping in Cowichan River Prov Park - food storage

Hi. We are planning a bike camping trip from Victoria to Nanaimo. Our trip will include taking the Mill Bay Ferry, camping one night at Barberton Provincial Park and the next night at Cowichan River Provincial Park and the third night somewhere around Chemainus. Has anyone bike camped or hiked into Cowichan River Provincial Park? I’ve heard there can be a fair bit of bear activity around the park and wondering if there is secure food storage in the campground. The same for Barberton. I grew up in Nanaimo and bike camped at a private campground in Chemainus a few times and I don’t recall bears being an issue there, but definitely around Lake Cowichan.

Have you contacted the campgrounds to find out if they have bear problems ?. Some will install bear boxes. If they don’t have that, consider a backpacking bear canister.
