I don’t know: The better you burn fat, the more glycogen you spare.

Yes but training those two energy systems - it seems that when you train one, you get worse at the other. It's been my experience that simply riding long, say 4 hour rides while going as hard as a hilly ride that long allows, say an hour in zone 4 and above, still trains all the fat burning one needs to do relatively fast 400ks and the like. So that's zero Z1 and the rest split evenly between 2 and 3. End result is that I can comfortably ride 1.5 hours without eating, but not 2 hours.

Flossing

My dentist tells me there are still people who don't floss every day. Gross or what?

I've always felt that the fat burning ability increases just as well whether one uses carbohydrates or not. It's what all those recommendations for lots of Zone 2 and 3 rides are about. But since on those rides there are always little challenges to get us in the upper zones, then some carbohydrates help keep the reserve tank full.

There are a lot of gross people then. I use to be one. But when I started getting sensitivity in my teeth below the gumline in my 20's, I learned that flossing will keep that away. I've flossed ever since. Though it took me a while to realize it made more sense to floss before brushing instead of after brushing!

Still, I wouldn't doubt that a majority don't floss. And many, maybe also a majority don't go to a dentist for regular check ups.
