Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

today i dropped off the little 722 at a bike shop, apparently they close at 4pm because they were bringing all the bikes in (went to a different LBS just for you Scrod!). I was basically in pajamas so when they said they needed to keep it and do it tomorrow I obliged. I needed some floor space to vacuum anyway!

Went for a brisk, 16-ish mile ride. Sliding for the first time ever on ice/snow with road slicks is kinda scary.

1st real day as acting head mechanic at the co-op The only real trouble was working with these two guys riding brakeless with totally loose headsets(missing parts), bent forks, and untensioned rear wheels (which resulted in broken spokes). With all that I couldn't let them go until things were working satisfactorily. But then, this is why I am here, no?

Sounds like fun. If only I still had time to volunteer at the co-op...

Today I found an empty classroom at about 11am and locked myself in it all day studying immunology. I feel like I have no soul. I did find a handy program called self control that you can intentionally block yourself out of websites like facebook, bike forums, youtube, etc. for a determined amount of time though, which is awesome when studying for finals.

That program is the bane of my existence. It ruins my life by not allowing me to procrastinate.

My finals were all last week, but when I was supposed to be studying, I didn't just put the pro in procrastinate, I was the pro. It was awful.

Today I removed my BB/crankset off my Kilo with my one operational arm. The bike being fixed made one-handed-crank removal much easier.

Also, my MVP for one handed crank/BB removal:

Jack handle/breaker bar. Shoop da woop.

I forgot to mention that I rode a carbon bike with full Dura Ace 7800. I will never look at my 105 5600 again. The differences aren't enormous (except in braking), but they were perceptible and desirable. I couldn't ride long enough to get a feel for the carbon, plus the bike wasn't my size, but I like how the carbon resonated gear shift sounds.

Just started the process of moving downtown from the county. My first time actually winging it without the parents (paying rent, food, etc.) The area is probably the most bicycle friendly area in the city, and the place is huuuuge.

Super psyched. Living with a guy that rides fixed and our neighbors organize alley cats. About to be a whole lot more bike in my life.

Today Planet Bike told me they'd warranty my floor pump. Yay! Now I can finally stop using my mini pump to inflate my tires.

Last night I talked to ES about having some sweet west coast BFSSFG meetup or something. Could be big, could be small, who knows, we think it would be pretty fun.

Today I, ordered a few parts to at least get the 722 running.

100 pushups and a cup of coffee for lunch.

win/win really.

contacting my dealer to see where my frame is. jonesin' for the frame swap.

making Filipino chicken adobo for dinner and get to do a quick 30min on the rollers while it's cooking.

Today I FINALLY got a good pic of the two squirrels that live outside our living room window:

They're so awesome and will come down the tree to eat right out of my hand.
