how much does it weigh?? You went compact, nice. when you load it up for touring you have GOT to lose the cheesy plastic headset spacers though!

Most appealing LHT I've seen. Good job! Really like the Ultegra drive train. Thomson stem, Easton bars, nice bits.

Very nice bike-- top end stuff all the way around.
I'd also agree Bekologist-- with rear cassette/derailer swap, I'd be OK for touring for most routes.
I'm betting it also hauls a** right now a little faster than the stock LHT.

Sweet. What are you planning for bar wrap? Is the Ultegra drive train going to be sufficient for loaded touring or are you planning on doing credit card touring and just general riding?

Very nice looking and probably very smooth. With 3 water bottle cages mounted it looks like it wants to go touring. Not sure about you but I would have a hard time touring with the stock Ultegra crank rings and cassette. I think it wants lower gearing to tour but the tires tell me it is not really for touring.
The Surly LHT frame and fork are solid. The geometry is the same as an Atlantis. This bike can be made up to do anything you want except race. A fine around town bike or one for long rambles but you probably don't need 3 water bottles.

The only component that is not traditional is the Ultegra STI drive train, the rest is very traditional. The threadless stem doesn't really count because the traditional stems have become obsolete.

the total came out to $1695. which i feel is really good. when i got a quote for the ultegra parts i wanted from my lbs (they didn't quote me for the sl parts, btw), they said it would cost about $1400 for just those parts alone. i got them on ebay for $560, which seemed like a steal for me.

thats what people keep telling me. right now i will use it as a commuter, and perhaps weekend trips. but i have aspirations for some long tours down the road. i'd swap a few things for heavy loaded touring, of course.

Hi,
you did great. When you tour you might want larger tires, see how it goes.
You created a sport bike. While you could have used a sport frame (like the Pacer),
this will serve you well.

i wanted something that was versatile for different things i want to do. right now, the bike is super fast, and a great commuter, but i definitely want the ability to tour with it down the road.
