My guess would be foot into front wheel the way the red rider is wobbling around. And going down onto chipseal can't feel good. Serious road rash.

I think this was the crash where the guy who hit the fence ended up with his tibia seeing some daylight

I hope he's ok and gets out of it w/out infection. Fing sucks.

I am guessing the guys handlebars got tangled with black helmet rider and they turned. After only a couple sideways skips of the wheel at 40mph it could not hold on and exploded and he went down.

There are a few photos in that series where it seems like #234 is about ready to karate-chop the crap out of the next thing that comes his way.

What category was this?

5s... glad I did the earlier race. It was nice and smooth.

It was a pretty crazy afternoon at Pace Bend.

The guy in white is lucky he didn't go headfirst into that metal pole at the end of the fence. That thing looks like it wouldn't give much.

Yeah...those Bontrager paired spoke wheels are not known for their durability.

I had a pair, and they were fast for inexpensive aluminum wheels - but they were incredibly flexy. Good TT wheels - bad RR and crit wheels.

I was looking at the pics again and in the very first one you can see a broken spoke. Wonder if that was the cause of the crash.

There was another update. Broken wheel guy was hurt bad enough to hit the hospital, but it doesn't sound like he was the compound fracture guy. There was another crash in the same sprint where a spectator was hit at 40mph.

Note to self -- Cat IV + 40mph sprint = carnage.

Nothing like crash pics to motivate me for a ride on the local icy roads. Maybe I'll invest in some body armor.
