Very sad indeed.
Through correspondence with him, I was put on fixed gear path.
A great biking advocate has been lost.

Wow. I only know of the man through my many visits to his site, which I still go to to find answers and learn.
Rest in peace Mr. Brown.

I signed on just to pay my respects.
Can someone reprint the "Sheldon Is My Co-Pilot" stickers?

*******..... is the first thing I said. This can't be true. I refuse to accept this. We had a nice e-mail conversation going on a couple weeks back..... there was NOTHING that would make me thing it's going to end soon.
For now... I can't accept. I fscking can't accept this. There's so much stuff I wanted to discuss with him.

Thoughts go out to his family from far away. We dedicated bicyclists are an international crowd and the net made Sheldon Brown an authority all over the world. He will be greatly missed by us all.

oh no!
I haven't logged onto bf in months, and the first thing I see is this news.
what an inspiration... what a true character.
the world is a lot less interesting today.

I became a mechanic because of his website. Perhaps I will name my next bike after him, as my two bikes thus far are named after friends who have passed.

aka mattio
so many of us are so grateful for his life and his influences, it's strange thinking of his death as a loss. i prefer to think of his life as a gift.
every time i emailed him, he responded with one useful piece of information, and something hilarious. he seemed to take a lot of joy in life. he's got joke pages on his website, and pictures of him riding a tandem alone. he built crazy bikes out of what seemed like curiosity - or because he hadn't seen it done before.
he got so many people riding bikes. and that's great.
