Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dream Bike Just Fell Into My Lap

Our team picked up a new bike sponsor and I placed my order for an Ultegra/Ksyrium SL build when I got a message back saying they had something special already built in my size, unridden...

So Saturday I picked up my new Beyond Fabrications Think, full '06 Record with Eurus wheels. It was a show bike so nothing had been adjusted, spent Saturday afternoon getting it mostly dialed. Took if for a spin on Sunday and I couldn't be happier. I'll dispense with most of the "stiff as hell" and "descends on rails" comments just saying that it is the nicest ride I have ever had the pleasure to have between my legs.

To summarize my initial ride impressions: It's damn light, damn stiff, handles incredibly well. I put it through its paces as best I could yesterday with a little climbing, tempo, sprinting, etc. Performs in every category. First time with Record too and I'm loving it. One hell of an upgrade from my LeMond 105/Etape.

Sure it's a Taiwanese frame, but it's pretty unique. Looks a bit like the Willier Le Roi or the Scott CR1, but the internal cable routing a gap in the seat stay definitely set it apart. Regardless of its country of origin it certainly qualifies as dream bike for me and it is a hell of a lot of bike for a measly Cat 4, not to mention only paying a fraction of what it would cost retail, or wholesale for that matter.

These pictures shot indoors don't really do it justice, but here's a Flickr Set and a blog post (ad free) of more details and ride impressions.

A word of advice : Never say this in the presence of your GF/Wife

Im not familiar with Beyond Fabrications but it looks to be a fabulous bike. Enjoy.

Hehe, she's already come to terms with my relationship with the bikes in our household. She jokes that she's afraid that I might hop on her Cinelli Olympic and ride to Mexico, but I probably wouldn't get very far seeing as she's six inches shorter than me (both the girl and the bike).

Thanks all around. It's sunny for the first time in a week and I'm seriously considering taking the rest of the day off from work just to go ride.

Heh, first thought was that it looks like my CR1. Nice bike, plus it says "Beyond" on the frame which I think is pretty cool.

my gf once asked why I talk about my bike so much and not her..... I said if I rode her 2 hours a day, I'd be talking about her instead of the bike.

Come to think of it, Beyond Fabrications sounds like an accurate description of half the stories posted on BF.

I haven't asked this of a man since Santa was real to me, but can I sit in your lap the next time bikes fall out of the sky?

Nice bike. Maybe one day you'll get the garage door to go with it.
