As far as cycling on the road goes, yes it blows. Florida as a whole though is beautiful and has been a nice place to live.

The Miami to Palm Beach area is a world of its own and should be judged separately.

+1. I grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area-- the place is a blight on the world. If you're there, though, check out All Books and Records on Broward, the Galaxy Theater on Sunset, or the Las Olas area. Going down by the river can really be beautiful at night-- the Riverwalk area has been horribly over developed, but its still a fun walk-- and you can pick up a water taxi. Parts of A1A are less than horrible to ride on though.

When I flew into New York, my flight had to share a baggage claim carousel with one other flight. And there were tons of white trash families. Nascar tees and mullets all around. The other flight was from Orlando.

I live in orlando and the metro orlando area would be great if you couldn't ride through it in 4 minutes.

Well, I just rode 30mi along 1A1, With a Random-woman, and i found having and extra rider made a world of difference, it gave us enough mass, to Take a whole lane without getting honked at (all that much). and 1a1 was not bad at all with 2 people, you people are just wussie, all though all the high rise condo's don't help the view. I still say this is a boring wasteland with nothing for a young person to do

I just got into Miami yesterday. I realized that the people here piss me off now. Overly masculine-wannabe short guys wearing bluetooth headsets and ugly shirts with wives wearing too-little clothes made for someone 25 years younger than them, driving the largest SUV's imaginable. I think I need to avoid the malls till I leave.

I have a heart for Cleveland, despite all it's problems.

well, Having met at least one cool person, adds character, to this otherwise barren landscape, any one who wants to ride, i be heading out from 1a1(collins) and 172nd street at 2:30pm, heading south, then looping back north, basically a few laps of 1a1, as far south as miami itself turning back at Hollywood beachish area. any one is welcome to join or if you got a better idea i'd be down

Klink,
If you hate So Florida that much, what the hell are you doing here? You weren't brought down here from BEATIFUL Canada in chains. You are not a captive, head north and live happily ever after.

Sorry Fla guys

Here's a piece of serious advice. If you're mired in Florida, travel a little. The place is one of the worst on earth. Highest point in the state? Like 300 feet above sea level. You live in a bug-infested swamp unfit for human habitation. Rednecks. Crappy weather. Neil Bush. B***hole retiree-refugees from the snow belt. Filthy water. Where to begin? It all looks better from the OTHER SIDE OF THE STATE LINE.

Florida: glad to be gone, and ain't never comin' back.

Strange how different people percieve things, I really enjoyed riding the Miami area, found the roads to be well thought out, and the drivers nice.

depends on where you are. I want to clarify that many of the busch-lite swilling, nascar-tee-shirt wearing dirtbags you see here are transplants, either from jersey or some ****hole in the midwest.

edited to add: that said, I can't wait to move out, once my MBA is done.

+1. I lived in Gainesville for several years in the late 90s and loved it. I basically hated everything and everyone south of Ocala.

Come to pensacola, our fixed scene is growing and we need more cyclist. A 60yr old male cyclist got hit by a car turning into him the other day and he had to be taken to the emergency room and the newspaper wrote it as it was the cyclist fault, I hate ignorant people.

In conclusion, if you can find bike kids, they're pretty cool. Stay away from the cops if you're protesting the FTAA.
