Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bianchi's done, here are a few pics

Well, I'm home from school with a nasty cold today, but I did manage to put the finishing touches on my Bianchi San Lorenzo. Here she is:

Before:

After:

The build weighs in at 17.5 lbs with a full Ultegra 10 group and Bontrager Race Lite wheelset. The geometry is exactly the same as before, so no surprises there.

OCP to-do list:
-Trade the Bontrager Race Lite wheelset for a pair of Ksyriums
-Get a pair of black Continental 700x23 tires.
-Remove seatpost decal.
-Celeste tires?? heh heh.

Congrats. What group was on it before and what was the previous weight again?

looks great. (even though you took campy OFF an Italian bike!?)

so you decided to sell off the look frame I'm guessing?

I had it previously equipped with a full Campagnolo Veloce 9 group. The whole bike weighed around 18 lbs. The Campy wheels (Xero XR-1) were about 200-300 g lighter than the Race Lites I've got on now, though.

So most of the weight savings came from the Ultegra Hollowtech II cranks (you won't believe how much a triple crank + square taper BB weighs by itself!), Easton seatpost, and classic Flite saddle. My old alloy seatpost was uncut and boat-anchorish, and the Max Flite was quite hefty as well.

The San Lorenzo frame in the middle is quite light (1045 g / 2.3 lbs). I weighed it on the shop scale; it's 17.5 as far as I know. A stock San Lorenzo with Dura-Ace and Ksyrium Elites weighs under 17 lbs, according to the official site.

Thanks! And yeah, I know. The San Lorenzo is sold stock equipped with Dura-Ace, though, so it felt oddly 'right' to go Shimano.

The Look carbon frame is most definitely for sale, and I'll have pics up soon. edit: here! https://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=369585

The frameset weighs 1054g, less than most high zoot carbon frames. 17.5 lbs is feasible

Nice one!

I like the angle you've got the Ultegra hoods tilted at - looks much better than the typical setup which has them pointing towards the sky. I'm sure its more comfy that way as well, because when you're on the hoods your wrists aren't getting bent backwards. If I was a shimano user myself that's how I'd set them up...

Yeah, I know - it's the seatpost. I don't really need the setback; I'll probably swap it out for something else.

Beauty. I really like it (before and after). So, what exactly did you change? Also, I'm getting a bianchi celeste in a week or so, and I wanted to get some of that sweet bar tape. Where did you get yours?

Thanks!

The tape is Fizik Microtex in Puke Green, er, celeste. It's great - nice and comfy, even after a hard ride in the pouring rain.

As for the build, the only 'original' parts are the frame, fork, handlebars, stem, and headset.

Newb question: how do you remove the decals from a seatpost? As far as I can tell, they're painted, not stickers.

Why not leave the front Campy wheel on then?

How dare you even suggest I commit such a flagrant violation of OCP guidelines?!
