Steel Lugged Frame If money was no object...
Ok so if money was no object who would you get your custom steel lugged frame from?
Vanilla and Richard Sachs are two that I am currently considering.

I never understand these "money is no object" questions, but to answer the corollary question of "if you were going to buy a lugged frame who would you use to build it" ---

Curt Goodrich, Chris Kvale, or Bob Brown. They're all within a reasonable distance so I could work directly with them and they all do great work.

Now that I think about it. I'd just go with Kvale. Exquisite yet understated lugwork, great craftsmanship a distinctive signature style and a great reputation. I hope he's still working when it's time for me to go that way.

Zanconato, Sachs, Baum (tig, not lugged), Pegoretti, Vanilla, Llewellyn... the list is a long one. Plenty of good steel builders out there. Like M S said, some of these builders have loooong waiting lists.
Llewellyn or Baum for me if I had the $$$, being in Aus and all.

Stephen Bilenky, who won "fanciest lugs" this year, if lugged were where I was going.

I'd go with Johnny Coast as he's local, I know him and a friend of mine from high school works for him.

I've got a stock early-90's Peugeot with 531 that fits me very very well.
Paid £50 - and with new chain, cassette, and chainring it was in perfect working order.
With good many component upgrades I now race it.

Time is more important than money, in this particular case. The waiting list for both Sachs and Vanilla is now in excess of 5 years. Plus, you'll have to pay them what the bikes cost in 5 years, not today's prices. I wouldn't even consider a bike with a long waiting list. There are plenty of excellent builders who can make you a frame in a few months, rather than years.
