Where do *you* buy spokes?
Now that I know what lengths I need (292mm and 293mm), I'm ready to buy me some 14g (or 2.0mm, take your pick) straight, black spokes.
Do you kind folks have recommendations for fast, reliable, and maybe kind sorta cheap places online to buy 'em? Been looking at AE Bikes (Wheelsmith spokes) but I don't know that I need 2 boxes of 50 spokes for $30 a pop when I'll only be using 16 of each. That's a lot of spares to have left over.
Beyond that, I am ready to roll. So to speak.
Thanks.

On eBay.de - there's this german dude that sells DT Swiss spokes dirt cheap. I don't even bother anymore with any other brand.
First of all, I never heard any bad things about DT Swiss - some swear by Wheelsmith, but then some people are not satisfied, for example. And then, I get 100 DT Champions for 13 bux. I think that's a good price. Yes, they're the cheapest DT Swiss, but they're still very good. For my better wheels I get Alpine III, but those are much more expensive (I don't recall exactly, like 41 bux for 100 spokes).

I have the capability of buying bike parts at wholesale prices. For my last several wheel builds, however, I've ordered from wheelbuilder.com. He sells me exactly the number of spokes that I needed and his service has been outstanding.

You got Champions for $13 a box? From whom?

If your lengths happen to be on Cambria Bike's cheap list that week they have good prices by the individual spoke. When you pull up their site you'll see that different lengths have different prices at different times.

bikeforums.net policies specifically forbid to post links to auctions or eBay shops.
But c'mon, unless you're *******, you know how to use the search function of ebay.de.
Anyway, yesterday I just bought 3x36 DT Swiss Alpine III from that same guy, for 5 EUR/box. That's 15 EUR for 108 Alpine III, which is not bad.

If you've never heard anything bad about DT spokes, you're just not paying attention . . . .

Luckily the spokes I bought /am buying are the old type.
From the article you linked to:

And there's 3 different eras -- the pre-2000 spokes, the "Revised" spokes, and the re-Revised spokes that fall somewhere in between.
I'm just gonna stay clear of the whole mess and use the Wheelsmith spokes.

hello
As long as they're standard spokes I usually go to my LBS and pick up just the exact number of spokes I need. I don't mind paying a few cents more per spoke.

You can either get by with one box of 292mm and have your non drive side with 1 mm less threading, or get a box of 293 and grind off 1mm from 16 of them...
Problem solved.
