Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sweet $75 Garmin Edge 305 - $50 Forerunner Rebate

I haven't seen this posted here and those of you who recently purchased
or are considering a Garmin will probably be interested. I recently bought
a Garmin Edge 305 and last night I discovered I was eligible for a $75 rebate
(or a $50 rebate for the Forerunner 305).

The offer applies to the 305 models only and is good for units purchased June 1
to November 30. All you have to do is sign up for a free Powerbar newsletter at:
https://www.powerbar.com/Newsletter/

You will need an itemized & dated receipt, the UPC code off the Garmin box,
and the form from Powerbar for the rebate.

The rebate offer shows up as soon as you sign up for the newsletter as a popup
window, so make sure your popup blocker is off and your browser accepts cookies
before you sign up.

Can you buy this online and supply a shipping slip I wonder. If not, you can still get an edge cheaper online.

Awesome! I was in a pinch and couldn't wait for an order online so this rebate definately helps offset the amount I just paid at my lbs. Thanks for the link.

I hope buying online is OK. It's what I did. Just sent in the form, so we will see.

The rebate form doesn't mention any restrictions other than the dates and limited to the original purchaser.

I think if you bought it off eBay you aren't usually considered the original purchaser.

i think it depends if you buy it from an e-bay store or not. when i had a problem with the Casio camera i purchased off ebay, i spoke to someone at Casio customer service, and they said i could print the winning auction page and use that to show proof of the original purchase date, and they honored that. at the time the camera was a new release, so it was impossible for the warranty to have expired when i contacted them, so maybe printing the winning page was just a technicallity to make everything look alright...

I'm not sure about the eBay thing. Here is Garmin's view on warranty on items purchased on online auctions:
"Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification, and Garmin will not replace
missing components from any package purchased through an online auction".
I don't know, but I would assume the same applies to the rebate.

Here, now you don't have to sign up for the newsletter

Also, i'm pretty sure if you buy one from Geoman the rebate would still work just fine. At least that's my assumption.

what a nice bonus for browsing the forum today! many many thanks!

bought mine in june from hrmusainc.com (should have bought from geoman and saved ~$20), and wonder if the printed receipt from the online transaction qualifies as an 'original receipt'...

will ask at the provided email address (rebate@garmin.com) and see what they say and post here...

thanks again byte_speed!

I was on the fence on the edge 305 but this may push me to take the plunge.
The thing is though...at the same time this rebate was announced Garmin released their corporate financials. In it are some cryptic remarks about "exciting new technologies and producst" being laucnhed this quarter. Possibly a hig performance GPS chipset? Navigation capabilities? I wonder...

Thanks, good spot. I might just hold off from buying the 305 for a few months and see what new stuff comes out. Thanks.

I can wait it out. I just finally got my $150 rebate on a computer I bought in April. Finally, but it came. Usually, just fill the stuff out correctly, and you're ok.

Great find! I've been thihnking about getting and Edge. What is Geoman's site address? The last few times I went to his eBay auction site, he didn't have anything listed for sale.

+1,000 - I've been getting that feeling for a while, and noticed that Performance has the 205 on sale for something like $75 off - plus they are running a 10% your order, and free shipping on orders of $75 or more.

I figured that the only way Performance would actually be offering a real deal is if the manufacturer was. I noticed that Target had a huge price drop on the Edge in it's stores, etc....

This is heralding the next generation of GPS units from Garmin.

Don't know if I can wait another year for them to figure out all of the bugs in the next generation. The Edge seems to work pretty well for everyone we know who uses one. The $75 rebate coupled with the approx $26something that geoman usually has puts the 305 bundle below $200. That's my price point.

Daddy is gonna get a Garmin.

I have heard the next generation will have a color screen and more detailed maps. I rode with some Garmin users yesterday and they all spoke of experiencing dropouts. That has been a problem for a long time.

Yeah, but that's the way it always is for any technology. Whatever & whenever you buy, a new model will show up sooner or later. Often a lot cheaper too.
