Helping Hands - BF V&C mechanic resource registry
Ok - we're a community, we're all friends (more or less ), and we all share a passion or interest in old bikes. After reading
THIS THREAD
it occured to me that we could help each other out by transfering some of our knowledge and helping a fellow BF member get a repair job done.
What I propose is a "registry" of sorts, a list or repository of folks that don't mind tossing a less knowledgable forum member's bike on the stand and giving a "how to" demonstration. For free. For the good of the community.
I'll start by tossing my hat into the ring. If you're in the SF Bay Area and need someone to show you how to do a repair, drop me a PM. If I can help, I will.

Since I followed you on that same thread, and I wanted to say to David, "If I still lived in Atlanta, call me up, I'll tell you what to order, and then come over one Saturday."
Count on me for NH, 30 miles from Concord. Glad to help anyone, especially if someone can help me build and true wheels.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
In the unlikely event that anyone will come to my streach of non-seacost Maine feel free. In fact, some kids from Collage of the Atlantic roadtrip up to see 'that old guy with the barn full of stuff'.

I'm in...not too well versed on on anything after STI ( I can work on it) but very vintage friendly. I travel mainly in the Carolinas with the occasional foray into VA. I expect to be in the Charleston, SC area for the next several months. I live about an hour to the south of Raleigh, NC and am usually home on weekends.
Edit: I am very well versed on internal geared hubs...primarily S-A

I'm in, too. I have very little brifter experience, but I bet I can figure it out. I have zero disc brake or suspension experience (I'm a roadie), so for that stuff you probably ought to get someone who knows what they're doing.
SF Bay Area, especially the East Bay. I'm just over the hills from Oakland. In fact, I live pretty close to bigbossman (20 miles, give or take) although we have never met. At least not yet. Hope to fix that soon BBM. Maybe when we start up that NorCal BF ride series . . . .

if this becomes a sticky, you should probably edit the original post to contain all of the locations and people, instead of making people read through all of the posts...

I'd be glad to help out, too. I'm in the Boston area and specialize in Sturmey Archer 3-speeds and pre-90s road bike repairs. I do a lot of single-speed conversions, fwiw, and sell them on CL.

North Dallas Texas right here, always happy to get my hands on a bike to help out a fellow forum member. I know my way around a fair bit of gear from 80's Shimano to modern Campagnolo. Always willing to give a fellow cyclist some pointers and I know a couple guys at a local club that I can point someone to if I come up short on knowledge.
Note: I did add a link to this thread in the C&V links sticky. I could also throw together a page on my website that we can keep the list on if this thread grows a bit big to be useful.

Great idea bossman. I'm here for anyone in northern Colorado. I also have little knowledge of brifters, disc brakes, or suspension systems but I'm willing to open my Barnett's if you're willing to watch me embarrass myself .

I can assist anyone in the area around Akron, Ohio. I'm quite experienced with 80's ~ road bikes but don't know beans about suspension, disc brakes, brifters etc.

Southampton, UK! Can do lots of things, though like most, not the new stuff, and don't have a work stand, so I won't be throwing your bike on there! I do have a good selection of tools though, and I'd love for someone to come and coach me on wheelbuilding!

Another for North Dallas.
I can set up new ergo stuff (sorry no shimano experience), know nothing
about mtb specifics (disc brakes).
Cup and cone BB? call me, Delta brakes? I'm there.
I may not be fluent but I speak campy, suntour and shimano.

SW Virginia here, from Blacksburg to Bristol. I am actually in Wise, which is off the beaten path (Interstate 81 at Abingdon) by about 50 miles, but wander back and forth to Blacksburg (where my spare time bikeshop job is) most weekends.

Count me in as well. Not from the Bay Area, but from the soon to be new location, Chehalis, Wa.
Halfway between 55/Rad in Portland, and East Hill in Seattle, and a stones throw away from the old Klein factory.

I think you've already got enough SF Bay Area responses...but I'll throw my hat in. I've done work on a lot and complete builds of vintage road bikes and Mtn. bikes, but don't speak Sturmey-Archer, Brifter, or have tools for modern front suspension forks. Plus I don't really like them new-fangled things...I once managed to break a tiny flimsy plastic tab inside a Shimano Mtn. Bike shifter and render it "friction mode" foreverafter. Now that's something I can do!

I'm here in Birmingham, AL, willing to help any C&V roadie. Haven't looked at any semblance of a mountain bike since my Krate in the 60's, but build my own wheels, pull apart everything on my C&V's, have even blasted & painted frames, made my own decals.
