Sooo many bikes.

We can divvy them up by you pick one, I pick one, you pick another one, etc.
I could always use an excuse to go to Sac'to and visit the ol' hood!

Hey guys! Before you plan anything, take a look at this post from CL. I knew I recognized these bikes!

Surprise, surprise..... I'm shocked - SHOCKED I say.....

Before it gets flagged, I'll cut/paste it here:

Re: 20 + footage of 100 to 200 bikes for $999.99 (vallejo / benicia)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: sale-249814321@craigslist.org

I've inquire about the ad placed on craigs from "Skip Beau" vallejo house of storage bikes weeks ago, since then his story hasn't changed. He mentioned that his bikes were all in great shape, and profitable to sell. Well upon seeing it, his bikes are not rideable, nevertheless sellable (w/ a clear conscience for safety) unless you have a skill or knack to replace, fix, trade one bike part for another plus storage fees. With this sale, Skip has removed his higher end bikes and sellable/rideable bikes from his lot....what's left are junk rusty bikes used for parts only...it is worth way, way under than what he is asking for. When ask if some were "hot" bikes,....Skip smiles and suggest that "one will never know, will we ?" He is P.E. teacher who sells bikes as a 2nd income..but refuses to reveal his source of origin on getting his bikes..he also tells me that he makes a lot of $ off the buyers from craigslist because they're just cheap in general, and that's what he sells......cheap bikes......

I thought I remembered that ad, I just couldn't place it. Darn. But he didn't appear to have anything quite my size anyway...you know I am going to visit all of you one day when I come to visit my mum down in San Jose (just by Union Middle School), my sister in Willow Glen, my other sister in Santa Teresa, my other sister in Los Altos, my work friends in various Bay Area locations...I will expect my dream little red mixte to be there, too.

You seem to have made a mistake. Your dream mixte is not red, it's metallic silver. I know this because it is sitting in my garage right now....

I think she meant a Pearl Mixte like the one that I'm keeping warm in my basement.

You're both wrong. It is metallic blue with some speckles of white overspray from a previous owner's carelessness. It's also in my shed.

I demand pictures!

All of them sound lovely. I keep looking at the Puch on ebay which is now a 'best offer', but I know it's too big for me...

It is the next bike in line on the "overhaul" list, after I finish the Schwinn Le Tour that another BF member has expressed interest in. I'll probably do it the week after Christmas, and post pics for all to see.

Of course, if you want to settle for Mhendricks offering..... well..... you'll be sorry!

I would be careful. That skip guy is super shady. For a while, he was the guy that did the "Sunday bike sale" thing. He would not give you his address until you got to the city and then gave him a call. Once you were there, he would tell you where to find him. I've heard too many bad stories about this guy.

Is this the same guy who gives you 'almost' directions to a certain address, then has you call from there?

Second, where do all of you find these mixtes? I am constantly looking, and I've only seen a couple go through the Seattle CL, including a nice blue Peugeot which was too big for me. Oh, and my dream little red mixte...

Hrm. We have a guy like this who sells bikes out of his driveway a couple of blocks from my bike shop. He frequently mangles the department store bikes he "comes across" and brings them to us to fix.

He's only had to return a couple of bikes to their rightful owners after the police had a word with him...

He pretty much got barred after we found out about it - and after he had the audacity to claim we stole one of "his" bikes...

Yes, I especially like the 250874319, it's a very pretty colour. But, they are both for someone much taller than I am .

Does one of us own this?:
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/250907364.html

I like this one too!
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/bik/250919805.html

Now you see, four mixtes in less than two days. I last saw a mixte up here seven days ago AND IT WAS STOLEN FROM ME...ok I feel better now. But it was my dream little red mixte. You know, I think there's a song here somewhere .

I just noticed that he keeps changing the wording in his advert:

20 foot storage container full of bikes (100-200) $999 takes it all
SPECIALIZED MARIN SCHWINN GT AND TONS MORE!
E-MAIL ME FOR MORE INFO. THANKS!!!!!!!

The above was the original ad posted by mastershake 916.

This is the ad now (from December 19, SF CL):

10' BY 20' CARGO CONTAINER FILLED WITH BMX, MOUNTAIN AND HYBRID BIKES
AROUND 200 BIKES AND PARTS
STARTING BID $999
LOTS OF EVERYTHING COME GET IT ALL TODAY!
THANKS!

Now it's an auction?

It's all very suspicious...what's his game?

Here and there......

Honestly, ALL the ones I have found have not been advertised as such. Either I've come across them at garage sales/thrift shops, or found them in response to a vague "bike for sale" ad. The one I traded off to Mhendricks a long time ago was just such a bike, and it was a like-new pale rose colored Centurion. It was in the background of a "2 Bikes For Sale" pic, and I could barely see what it was.

Last year I picked up a Motobecane mixte frame set that was a pretty candy apple red with black accents - a real stunner. It had most of the bits on it, and what it didn't have I did. I built it up and put it on CL, and the first woman that came to see it literally squealed out loud with delight as she hopped up and down and clapped her hands. For good reason, too - it was the prettiest mixte I've ever handled.

Don't feel bad though, it was probably too big for you, anyway..... Seriously, I'll keep my eye out for a red one if you want. PM me with what you're looking for, and I'll be glad to keep you in mind. You never know what's going to turn up.
