Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Okay, folks, it's that time of the year again! The ride was such a big hit last year with a ton of BFers coming from all over to beautiful Pennsylvania Dutch country. Threads for last year's ride can be found here and here. The site for the ride is here.

This one takes place on August 20, which is a Sunday. Lots of very nice and quiet backroads through most of the route. Good food and great people! We could get a couple rooms for all of us out-of-towners to shack-up in.

If you are interested in going for a good cruise in PA, post up!

Here's last year's roster:

Jess and I are in. She'll be there with her new Serotta, and I'll be there with 15 fewer pounds of me.

I think we'll camp again.

hmmm tempting if it was a really big 500+ rider event, but 1,723 km (about 19 hours 56 mins) X2 for a round trip is alot of gas from canada and back.... that'd be like 6 or 7 tanks of gas, at 55$ a pop, hmm.... 385$... hope there isn't an entry fee

From what I am told it is over 500 people.... over 1,000.

I plan on going if my schedule works out.

Well, there was well over a thousand people there last year. Can't remember how many, really.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, Mirona, but I'd like to give you folks advance notice of the other Covered Bridges Ride, hosted by Central Bucks Bike Club in mid-October. Although I may be biased, I think our routes are much more scenic, and we put on as well-run an event as any club in this region.

You? Heck look at me! I have absolutely no shoulders. It's like a 100% grade leading from my deltoid muscle to my head.

No prob. I went to that one too and had a great time with a few other forum members. KirkeIsWaiting, bibi, HigherGround and myself rode that route. Threads for that ride are here and here (I did some cleaning on my web site and forgot to re-upload the photos for the second link.)

What is the zip or exact address of the ride ?
I was on the site but their directions seem very vague.
I wanted to use Mapquest to see how far the drive would be from CT.
Maybe I could bring the honey to this one.....

Thanks !

If you think you can fit my 57cm Scattante, you're more than welcome to use it. Just bring your pedals.

It's got a 570 TT with a 110mm stem. If you have a longer stem lying around, we can swap it out for the ride.

really? really really? It would work just fine for the ride, I'll bring my pedals and saddle. The Ionic I'm riding now (that orange steely I had last year) is a 58, so I think I'll be fine for one day

I owe you many beers! I hope you don't have to fit it into the Camaro this time

I am definitely going. I am either gonna do the century myself or probably one of the shorter rides on the tandem with my wife. Depends on whether I can whip her back into shape in time.

lol, that was a Mustang, and it's been sold. This time I'll have a Mini cooper, BUT our bike rack fits on the back (unlike the Mustang) and I think I can fit the 3rd bike in the back.

Last year, a whole bunch of us stayed at:

Quality Inn & Suites Conference Center (PA429)
2363 Oregon Pike , Lancaster, PA, US, 17601-4608
Phone: (717) 569-0477 Fax: (717) 569-6479 Toll-Free: (800) 892-9875

The ride itself started at (could change year to year):

Greenfield Corporate Center
1853 William Penn Way
Lancaster, PA 17605-0008

I live in Southwick, MA and it took me a little over 6 hours one way.

superdex, if you want to ride a 53 I'd be more than happy to bring an extra!

p.s. I just checked the area on Google Maps and got this cool-looking satellite view where we ride:

Your timing is impeccable, I was just about to look that information up to make a reservation. 2nd Call: who wants to split a room?

I should be able to make it up from Maryland assuming my wife hasn't scheduled herself for work that day. Even then I may get my mother in law to watch my son. It's only a 96mile drive that morning or possibly stay a little closer at father in law's or sisters in PA.

I remember reading about the group of you last year. Sounded like fun.
