Bikes: several. blue. fun.

sorry to start another thread in one day... but we realized last night that the clock's ticking and some of us move slower than others...

The deadline to make the registration lottery is April 1.

If we're riding as a BFFG team (we can come up with a more clever name and some team logo hotpants later), we need to send our waivers and checks in together, which means someone has to collect them and send them in. That means it's time to make all our talk mean something...

- folks still wanna do this? who's in? (I am, duh.)
- can anyone be the collector of waivers and "group contact"?

we can talk about whether we want to rent a bus, van, RV, etc. and team name, logo, and crap later. right now, we just need to get registered.

registration is rather confusing... read more here: https://www.ragbrai.org/ragbrai-regfaq.shtml#5
whether you register online or not, to be in the group, you have to send a check and a waiver to the group contact.

?

i would, but biking through blistering heat and humidity fueled by pork products and beer just doesn't seem like my kind of thing...

Bikes: cannondale cyclocross, gan well pro (unmarked from the factory in kyoto!!) track bike. In parts. Partial (historical) ownership of fuji track bike; Fire Breathing Horse. Motobecane messenger track (pink).

holy f**ing sh*t. I went to high school in iowa. people actually fly there to do that? You hipsters are down with drinking and riding through cornfields and passing out in barns for a week?

ah, the memories.

have fun and don't forget to do the top five REAL IOWA EXPERIENCES:

1. getting cut up from the corn fur and having a giant spider in your face from messing up his web.
2. getting beat up from hillbillies in nautica because you're wierd
3. having people not get what you're talkin' about and listening to an hours's worth of conservative christian ideology SEVERAL TIMES A DAY
4. The food blows. I mean there's actually NO fresh produce and if you're not severely overweight you'll understand why they are. Bring edible food.
5. fashion: only china can keep up with the midwest.

That registration BS seems like a headache.

Is it absolutely necessary to register? I'd just do an informal thing.

You only need to register if you need your stuff hauled or you plan on using the sag wagon. I think the sag wagon is $25 if you're not registered.

I heard that only around 45% of all participants actually register.

Are people gonna' do this thing for real? I'd love to get in with a group, but if that's not happening I want to register myself.

i wanna register because some bars when I rode it had $2 beers ONLY with wristband, $4 otherwise. think about how much we drink. over a week, that makes it worth it.

i'm hoping we can get a team BFFG interweb dorks to ride it fixed... and we don't have to register, but we need #'s to see whether the bus/van/wagonwithkeg/rv is practical. (let me endorse the RV, since it rocks having a fridge and shower...) if we have a vehicle we'll need drivers too, so think about injured or non-riding friends...

MLP, Shants, you in for team interwebdork??

ok, registering or not, we need a general headcount... to see if we have enough people to rent an RV (shower!)

Wow, I was interested until that came up. No offense if you work there, but that place is such a parody of itself it makes me embarassed to be white.

Whoever said Iowa has no produce is seriously on crack. The Des Moines farmers market is off the hook, and most places in Iowa by May you can just drive around country roads and look for tables of produce by the road with a money jar next to them. Place is straight-up boring if you like anything but burbs and ruralness, but it's damn sure fertile. Not to mention that if you come from NYC you will probably pay for you trip in beer savings -- $9 30's and whatnot.

oh, and don't order chicken anywhere. Eating anything but pork there marks you as a communist.

We're looking to put together a BF team, not a DC team, so don't let it stop you from joining us. (I'll be a Chicagoan by that time anyway) Those folks will do what they do. We kinda want to do a week long BF-meetup sorta dealie. Only far less cold and fewer people getting arrested in busways.

I am not far away from Iowa at all, so if there's a webforumdork group...I'd probably go. I did one day last year and had a good time.

But I am not too keen on doing it fixed... Especially considering I have a very geared, very rackable, very comfortable Bianch Eros. So uh, yeah.
