Hey guys - decided to snap some pics of my commute for you. Absolutely beutiful this morning

the commute is approx 35 miles and this takes place at 8am. The commute takes me through these cities in Norcal

Hayward
Union City
Neward
East Palo Alto (not the best place to flat)
Sunnyvale

Heres a bridge a few miles into my commute - had to stop to tweak my cleats so i snapped a pic - trusty Merlin as my commuter waiting patiently

caught and passed a fellow commuter, had to laugh as i zipped by him with no hands on the handlebars and snapping pics - he sounded near to cardiac arrest

Nice commute. Mine is through sub-urban sprawl. Nothing but rows of town houses, condos, and strip-malls.

So how long does your 35 mile commute take you? A couple hours?

I'm contemplating a commute - 41 miles over hill and dale. I might have to leave the house before the birds are up. Yikes!

when i started it took me 2 hours exactly - after commuting for a few months as long as the traffic light gods are good to me I can make it in 1:40 min these days.

Wow, I rarely average 21 mph on training rides. My commute rides are usually only 15 mph or so.

nice ride BAW. my commute ends up about a mile from you but my route there is not nearly as scenic (straight shot up san tomas / montague expy). good to see there are others not scared off by the "cold" snap..

When you drive, how long does it take you?

That's pretty speedy. It would be about 15MPH for me so I reckon it would take closer to 3 hours than not with the mountains to go over. Hmmm...one day perhaps.

My drive is hour and a half with the traffic so what's an hour and a half more, right?

So jealous! I have to ride through city streets and drab grey business areas to get to work. No trails either, just the right lane...

Hey BAW, do you get any grief from the law for being on the bayshore trail after dark? The area next to the golf course in E. Palo Alto.....I have been wondering, as technically it is closed after dark. Yes, E. Palo Alto is a bad spot for flats after dark..........not much for streetlights. I learned that it is really nice to have a headlamp that slides off the mount so you can see what your doing. Here's a good one....the access road to the Dumbarton? I actually saw a Lincoln town car sail through the fence (on its roof, no less) into the drink about 200yds ahead of me one sat afternoon....(accross from KGO towers) I always wondered how people did that.

With a bike commute route like that it would have to be raining hammers for me to get in the car!

The other thing that BAW isn't telling you is that it costs $3.00 to drive a car accross the Dumbarton. We do have headwinds, however. The Bridge can be really a trip in stout wind, the rail is about elbow high...I have wondered if I could swim the bay with my bike in my teeth....

hey guys thanks for the kind words - the ride in this morning was excellent. Im racing on Sat so I reaaally pushed it coming in this morning. Not sure on the exact numbers as my commute bike does not have a computer. I will need to ride the immortal force one day for exact numbers as it has my puter.

I do treat my commute as a training ride though cuz well why the hell not LoL. Ive got full shower facilities available at work.

On average the drive takes between 45-1 hour - depending on traffic. And yes the toll sucks and its about to go up even more...

i have yet to be bothered for being on the muts - but i was stopped for have headphones in both ears by a cranky park ranger just as i was getting on the bridge access road...i had also blown the stop sign pretty good so after a quick tongue lashing and a few yes sirs i was on my way.

I need to get another headlight...my last one was stolen out of my trucks console. The nights are getting longer so I will soon be able to commute fully both ways instead of taking Amtrak to Fremont on the way back.

Thanks BAW...uh was the "cranky park ranger" an older git with a crewcut? He pulled me over after I did a trackstand at the stop sign at the parking lot at the top of the hill on the access road.....presented me with a ballpoint pen "that's for the closest thing to a stop any cyclist has managed all day". I treasure it...sort of.

Oh yeah? well my province could beat up your state! Well, maybe at least if it was during a hockey game and we could all pull your jerseys over the back of your heads.

Seriously great pics though. Makes you wonder why so many people sit in those mega bay area freeways all day.

LoL thats him and exactly the same place he busted me. Not a bad guy after you let him blow off some steam. He actually snapped pics of me with a digi camera...i was temped to whip out my camera and take some of him but thought better of it.

All that boring clear blue sky and tedious sunshine. I pity Californians

Wanna bet? I live 30 miles north of there with cleaner air, less traffic, and way more wineries.
