My Ron Cooper is "Ron"
My Cinelli (built by Cino Cinelli himself) is called "Cino"
My Gary Fisher Sugar 1 is "Sugar"
My Miyata, which reminds me of a bee because it's got yellow and black colors is "Eric" (after Eric the half-a-bee from Monty Python).
My Raleigh (with a Heron headbadge) is called "Heron".

My touring bike, a fully customized Surly LHT, is named "Harvey." Because, it is my RV you know - and mostly because that's so corny it makes my adult kids groan. Harvey and I have ridden coast-to-coast on the Transam, and followed the old Pony Express route by riding the Western Express from San Francisco to Pueblo. So we have a few miles on us, but expect to accumulate many more. Best wishes,
Buddy Hall (Harvey's friend)

Oh, forgot to mention my road bike - a 1981 Raleigh Super Course. It goes by the name of "Sir Walter," which just seemed appropriate. Sir Walter was lost in a warehouse from 1981 - 2007 when I purchased him after he had been discovered along with some 200 others - he was a 1981 bike that was new in the box when I assembled him in Dec 2007 - now, that's just special.

I think most adults believe giving names to inanimate stuff is immature and something we normally out grow. https://www.thecut.com/2017/11/the-p...our-stuff.html On the other hand, there may be evidence it indicates a level of "social intelligence" or evolution. https://qz.com/935832/why-do-people-...-intelligence/ Who knows? I don't name my stuff, FWIW.

Fortunately, some of us just don't care what "most adults believe." :>) Besides, my bike is truly animate. I offer the following as anecdotal evidence of that claim; Transam, Both Ends to the Middle; Buddy Rides a Bike: Day 24: Farmington, MO to Ellington, MO; The Day I Raced the Devil (crazyguyonabike.com) Hey, entire religions are founded on nothing but anecdotal evidence, so mine is as good as anyone else's. Best wishes,
Buddy Hall

I don't name my bikes other than the make of them to me really not my personality style. I might add I am jazz guitarist and luthier and I don't name my guitars either except the make of them. So I am either riding my Habanero or playing my Super 400.

I kept the names they were born with; proceeded with "The" as one uses "Mister".
So I have 'The Foundry', 'The Niner', 'The Fuji".
I know it's not original, but they've never seemed to mind it.

I name my cars (true), but never my bikes; just "The Ridley", "The Niner", etc. But unlike my cars, I sometimes think my bikes have feelings. My Ridley LOVES being ridden hard and dangerously - that was my old crit bike. My gravel bike likes to chill & grind out miles. My Niner is timid and runs away from danger; I won't do anything technical anymore.

I have always wondered why people name their bikes but I now own two identical bikes, same manufacturer and model, and I have to give them names for my ridelog and when talking to friends.
So, now one is called, "The White One" and the other is "The Black One."

My bikes names are what they say on them. I've had mid 30-something cars/trucks and always called them by the make or color, unless I happen to have more than one of the same color at any given time.

I do have a bike named Fred. I made a frame decal for him. He's a rain bike build I did from spare parts on a $120 Bike Nashbar frame. Great bike, really.

I don't name them, I do reference them. This thread got me thinking about it. I have no real desire to name stuff but find shorter ways to reference them.
1972 Bottecchia - Bott
1983 Colnago - "nago
1984 Trek 610 - Patrek - drewed frame when purchased with custom braze-on added to my liking with Superbe Pro drive train
1984 Trek 760 - the 760
1988 De Rosa Professional - DR Pro
1991 Pinarello Montello - Pinny or Monti
1994 Burley Duet - the tandem
1997ish Tern - the Tern
1997 Specialized Rock Hopper - the truck because it hauls stuff as a commuter, or did.
2010 Specialized Langster - the Langster
The racing bikes - the Italians.

I don’t name inanimate objects, I have enough trouble with the names of the animate in my life. However I do refer to my bikes by their brand and or model.
