Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hot morning, in the 80s at 7:00 and 90s by 10:00. Schweatty balls kind of day.

Sprinkler system repair begun, and second shower completed. I need to go out for a part and also need to go to the bank and to the next town over to get a tire for the car. The size I need cannot be procured by the single tire shop in Tixkokob.

Put a new stem on the emonda last night. Shorter but more drop. I like how it feels, but today I had pain here. Which I know the stem shouldn’t have anything to do with that, but what’s the solution? Is my seat to high or low or forward or back?

bampilot06 I have had quadriceps tendonitis in both legs over the years, with pain above the kneecap right where you circled. You gotta ease the tension on those quads pulling your kneecap up. So, stretching, foam rolling etc. If your glutes and hamstrings are not activated, you may be over using your quads as well. If you don't do any strengthening on your glutes, do that and focus on pedaling a higher RPM with your heel dropped.

seedsbelize2 there was a while when I commuted to work and the hot water in the shower was not working. So, I would take cold showers out of necessity. It was uncomfortable, but man I felt great and refreshed afterward. Soon as that hot water came back - I returned to my previous comfortable ways

Both sides, or just one?

Went out and rode through some sand this morning. Gets the heart rate up quick. Some clouds blocked the sun so that was nice. I have this problem of over-working the left leg because of injuries to the right. If I think about it while riding I can avoid it, but I always end up with a left quad that is more sore than the right.

Many of the people I ride with are driving to Ventura again tomorrow. I think I want to stay local despite the heat.

I delayed my typical Thursday night MTB/gravel bike ride by an hour last night. The shadows on the climb up to Brown Saddle were much more favorable.

Tomorrow, I'm going to ride my MTB in the Santa Monicas with my buddy who lives in Brentwood. Temps in his area have been very pleasant while us valley folks have been roasting.

This week we're back to normal temps - highs in 75-85 range, afternoon winds, mid 50s overnight. And here I am with this gammy leg.

I have been riding on the trainer in the garage, though. The problem is it's hotter in there than outside. Years ago, we built a room there - drywalled it, put up a wall separating that room from the washer/dryer area, added a ceiling and insulation. That room will stay cooler than the rest of the garage, because of the insulation. IF you keep the door shut. The Boys, and Mrs. GJ seem incapable of SHUTTING THE DAMN DOOR!!!!

Pasadena is expected to have 19 days in July over 95degF. That tops the previous record of 14. The average is about 6.

Put an automatic closer on the door.

Me too. Everything on the right, except the left shoulder and the left ankle. Hip, ankle, knee, lower back, IT band all on the right.
Left ankle is a recent innovation, like 2+ years.

I was thinking about riding in the Sant Monicas, too. Might go to the end of Reseda to Parker Mesa on the mtb. Might drive to Calabasas and do some road climbing, maybe Fernwood. Decisions.
