Rode outside again today, did my standard 2 hr loop with 4x3' at ~125% surrounding 1x10' at 100% up (most of) Mt Soledad. Felt peppy.

Interval Tuesday. 2 hour ride with efforts. I thought I saw @TMonk just south of Swamis - must have been someone else. I also saw John Howard and said hi right at Swamis.

2 hrs this morning on Zwift, 2x24' up Epic KOM at SST (~4.0 w/kg), which was good for top10 times on the live results. Warmup/cooldown on Fuego Flats - my favorite route.

8' intervals this morning on a loop that I have a love/hate relationship. Love because it's flat and shady and has good pavement. It's in a park that's a 10 minute ride from my house and is a perfect one-mile loop around a portion of the municipal 9-hole golf course. I hate it because more often than not it has golf carts crossing, yahoos walking down the middle of the lane, and occasional wrong-way cars and bike riders. Today, there was group of older ladies walking their dogs spread 5-wide across the lane, then the older guy on a mtb who was going the wrong way, who flipped me off when I pointed that he should go with traffic not against it. Guy was old enough to be my dad. Ay chihuahua.

Felt like crap today so I only did 3 hours, up soda springs, bear canyon, and old santa cruz.

Rest week is going well, just doing a few fasted Z2 rides and letting my TSB get some relief. Sleep is solid and I feel good overall. I'm definitely going to be ready to do some work on the next training block and hopefully see some good improvement in FTP. Side note, is your heart rate what trains your heart and increases stroke volume, or your watts? I did two zone 2 rides, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon heat, and there was a 30 bpm difference despite the same wattage and speed. I imagine the higher bpm (near FTP bpm, but z2 watts, and yes it was hot and humid as hell) improves my cardiovascular system more than the morning ride that was Z2 HR and watts.

Rest week; sorta.
In addition to recovery, I've been spending 2 hours a night pulling weeds, which is almost harder than cycling (def less enjoyable). Some of these roots go almost a foot deep, and my backyard is roughly the size of hockey rink. There were probably over 500 of them, now its down to about 30.
We had a green backyard a month ago, but in the summer it browns. Its roughly $400 a month to maintain a lawn in a yard that size, so were going to plant an orchard in the back and maybe have a small grass area near the front.

Did no riding all week except the social beer ride on Wednesday, which included me attempting a dirt jump. I guess one shouldn't just approach a jump with too much gusto and zero skill no matter how small. Was only like a 5 ft long jump but I turned it into more like a 10 foot jump landing first on my rear wheel then my ass.
TSB up from -70 last Saturday to -20 today. Should be ready for some moderate weekend riding.

I guess I have to try again after some youtube tutorials lol. It seems I may have pulled up too hard to compensate for a tiny jump last week in which a friend said I landed a bit too much on the front wheel. I don't think he knows what hes talking about, but that makes 2 of us. I got about 10x more air than I expected. These jumps could be fun if I get the hang of them.
Another friend on a mountain bike who was successfully jumping the thing over and over said he just pictures a dotted line through the air in the path he wants to take.

I rode dirt bikes for 10 years and jumping is sometimes required. I never got really good at it and I never had any formal instruction but I could manage the small stuff without faceplanting. I used to go to Supercross and watch them fly through the air, I could never do that.
Two years ago I bought a more modern mountain bike with 6 inches of suspension and I get off the ground once in a while but I don't seek out jumps. Plus, I'm not wearing motorcycle gear and I am as old as dirt so I really don't want to fall. I have been on mtb rides when guys show up on fully rigid gravel bikes but haven't seen any of them getting big air.

I can hop over things and navigate moderate drops, but I'm straight up not doing big drops (> ~4 ft) or voluntarily taking big jumps. I'll hit the little tiny ones though and just do a little controlled, moderate pop for funsies. This is on a HT MTB.

Headed out now for ~4-4.5 hrs, cruising. Going big on Memorial Day - I've got a 125 mile route. It's been penciled in for a while now but mattm and Ttoc6 's (fairly) recent reports of rides that long got me wanting to dust off those plans. Excited!
