Please let me know if you see any issues.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear short shorts and crop tops.

You'd think we'd know all there is to know about these vintage rides but we keep learning and yearning for more.
Centurion Ironman set up as a commuter. I bought the frame for $40, teal Ironman fork (spray-canned black) for another $20. Rebuilt with all new bb, hs, etc. and full RX100 group. Suntour Superbe wheels. It only has a rusty 6 speed freewheel, but that is 4 gears more than I need on a 5 mile flat commute

How's the ride?
I don’t know yet… I’m really hoping to feel some “Dave Scott magic” to occasionally extend my commute home from 5 miles to 15 or more. My previous fat-tired commuter was uninspiring and just sufficient to get me to the train station and back.

Quill stem, headset and handlebar are from the original build.
Rims are Kinlin XR31T 24h front and 28h rear on red Bitex RAF12 and RAR12, Sapim Laser spokes - didn't go with asymmetrical XR31RT after reading of cracks.
All Ultegra R8000, except the crankset that is R8100 160mm. 11-32 rear, compact 50x34 front.
Kalloy One 35cm, Shimano Pro Race Control bar tape, Selle Italia SLR flow S3 and PD-A600 SPD pedals from my parts bin.
Edit:
Conti GP5 700x28c with good clearance front and rear.
Also replace the pedals for same model black ones and saddle for Selle Italia SLR Superflow 130mm.

If anyone is refurbishing an Iron Man frameset, I have a full set of Velocals decals. PM me if interested.

Newbie
Here's my 1985 Ironman. The bike was in rideable shape and just needed a bit of tuning when I got it.
At some point in its life it has had some upgrades
- Shimano 105 rd
- Shimano RSX brifters
- 7 speed freewheel
After riding it a few times I decided to investigate the very rusty paint, and discovered that under the paint was almost all rust.
Now the frame is completely stripped to bare steel in the shed, waiting for a paint job.
I'll be fitting these parts to complete the bike:
- 13-28 freewheel
- SPD pedals
- Vitorria Rubino tan wall 25c tyres
- new bearings & cables & chain etc
- maybe some dual pivot brakes; I'm used to discs!
Also I've got to say thanks to everyone here for this absolute goldmine of information!
(click my profile for a photo, I don't have enough posts yet to put one here.)

Still have my '86 (old pic) which I'll be riding tomorrow morning after I drop my 9 yo daughter off at softball camp.
I washed all my bikes (except for the '85) to take updated pics however it's been raining here almost everyday for three weeks. Not much difference actually, except new tires.. dura ace chairing..dura ace freewheel.
