I think, as far as football goes, the rear end is the most logical place to deliver a congratulatory or motivational pat...The butt is right around hand level and isn't covered with pads, unlike the back. Both the butt and upper back/shoulders are large, stable areas that will hardly disturb you if you get a pat. Really, its just a muscle.

I've never been tapped before Is my butt really that unattractive to other guys? I've worked pretty hard to get my posterior looking good, the least these roadies can do is touch it.

'Cuz it's full of flakes, fruit and nuts?
Jeeze Towlie, touching in this fashion is the way it is. It seems strange to you because you haven't become used to the idea. Get in touch with your inner cyclist (puns intended).
Or were ya trolling and happened to hit paydirt?

How many of you guys out there are comfortable quoting "An Officer and a Gentleman?
Call me what you will, but I must confess a reluctance to quote said movie for fear of people thinking I like Richard Gere movies. And yet I see so much of it in cycling.
Why not, say...Cool Hand Luke? Austin Powers? A Longest Yard is something I can more easily warm up to. Just not An Officer and a Gentleman.
