Just started using the Alfine 8. I noticed the the clutch slip also.
Pulled over and checked the alignment marks. Alignment was ok.
Put 12,000 miles on a nexus 8 and didn't notice the clutch slip as much
on a Novarra Fusion.

So far, I don't feel this clutch slip in every gear, just two or three.

I would prefer an IGH, but since you either need horizontal dropouts (rare) or kluges like a chain tensioner or offset bottom bracket (both messy hacks), and I'm happy with a cheap $300 bike, I live with derailleurs.
If I build a new bike, I'm actually going to use one of the new NuVinci CVT hubs. Infinite gears, baby!
