Hi, my first post here. Thought I would show you my new current daily commuter since my transmission has died.

It is a late 1980s Centurion road bike. I picked the frame up at a second hand store for 45.00. I then put another 50.00 worth of parts and a lot of elbow grease to get it cleaned. This picture was taken right after I got it almost road ready. I finished building this bike back in March and it's doing me fine now.

I'm going carless now to save up more for school, my total car expenses every month were over 550.00 (including insurance, taxes, maintenance, gas, etc). This isn't the first winter I have gone carless, but this will be the first winter I will try to ride a bike the whole time. Obviously this is my Summer bike and I'm currently looking around for a great Winter bike.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love this thread and that it is giving me some bad ideas ?

I have only stretched one bike (for practical reasons) and have been known to surf or have people surf on the rear deck from time to time as well as ride behind the saddle.

Haha, it may look funny but it is more comfortable for me. I always have to adjust my position because my back creaks sometimes (I'm only 20...). Although they aren't that tilted now, that pic was taken before I made any real adjustments to ride ability.

It's obvious from the photo that your granddad and dad were good parents.

So what's the story behind those tall bikes, they seem quite weird. You catch a lot of wind when you sit so high, you can fall more easily and you can't get on or off you bike without jumping. It seems like total madness to me. Can someone explain what their purpose is ?

just a little side project, bit of cutting here and there, might try and close in the frame a little, false tank or something....who knows!

That sure looks like a stretch version of the Dahon Mu frame. Too bad it doesn't fold.

Yep it sure sucks that this bike isn't foldable, it won't fit into my van without me taking the front fork apart
And the inspiration didn't come from the Dahon Mu but from the pedalhawg who'm I asked if I could use his basic framedesign to make a chopper of my own.

Does my new grocery-getter count?
[Found an old Steel MTB frame in the local rubbish coral round the corner. Bit of angle-grinding, some powder-coat from the nice people at Armourtex in Hackney and some choice parts and I can now present 'Grocery Getter'. Waiting on a kickstand and some sort of box for the rack. 3 speed Sturmey Archer with back-pedal brake, hub brake at front. Seriously good fun.

(I know it's a 'tri-cycle' but still pretty cool I think)

I prefer to just keep my uni as a uni ; )

what do you do with that thing anyway? drift?
any reason for the brake? I wouldn't think you'd need it with a wheel that small.
