I know you posted this a couple of years ago, but it bears repeating......the lug-work is stunning and your photos capture it perfectly.

Just scored a really nice super grand Prix
Saw a FS add on a Facebook local selling group for a Raleigh bike. The model was listed as 'Classic"? So I decided to go have a look even though it was 60 mile RT. After seeing the bike, I determined it's a Super Grand Prix. The word Classic is on the top tube so the seller thought that was the model. The price was super cheap so I bought it. It's a 23.5" frame, and I have determined it is a 1979 as several components are stamped 79. The condition is excellent! Absolutely no rust anywhere or pitting on chrome bits. It's got good (not original) tires showing no wear. Almost everything is original (different bar tape, and toe clips missing) with no grease or grime on the drive train. The brake pads have virtually no wear. the rims don't have any brake wear marks. I think it hasn't been ridden more than a few miles in 40 years! Brought it home, and aired up the tires, and took it for a ride. Rides good, and everything is properly adjusted, and works as it should. All it needs is a good cleaning, and polishing. No buffing wheel work needed for the aluminum parts, just polishing with Mothers makes everything sparkle.

Movie shoot at the shop today. Stacked the deck with '84-'85 Racing USA models
Not sure if they got many shots of Service, but if so, it should be interesting...

I found this on CL & couldn't let it go. All I've added is the bottle cage & wire basket (to be replaced when I find a wooden box).
I haven't been able to find this SN number on any lists to confirm this is a '69 as the hub indicates.
Heat didn't help to remove the odd stickers, any ideas? edit: stickers on the chain guard that read 'Raleigh'

WD40 is a pretty good glue melter to try on the stickers.

curved stem RSW style handlebars
pre self adjust brake levers
brazed eyelets for seatpost clamp not chromed cuff
'69 sounds right; serial numbers on the web seem to correlate to those frames stamped on the rear of seatpost tube not rear dropouts. I haven't had much luck tracing dropout numbers either
Are you sure that's original factory paint?
Original lettering I'm told are lacquer transfers so unable to be removed without spooling the paint. Only late 70s did Twenties get sticky decals that can be peeled off successfully.
Or or are you trying to remove 3rd party aftermarket stickers?

Yeah, I had noticed the handlebars seemed to indicate an earlier model, but I hadn't thought of the seatpost. Thanks for another indication of '69 vintage.

I'll give the WD40 a try.

1984 Raleigh Record Sprint
Saw it and it was very cheap, but just thought it was so cool. Cleaned, re-greased, new bar tape. Missing couple of stickers, seat and maybe back wheel (Mavic) not original. Tall bike 60 cm.

I love these zombie threads that keep on kicking. I had to look back thru it to see if I had posted this before. This '78 Super Course started out as a $20 CL find. Not mechanically correct, but it went together nicely out of mostly spares and is a pretty nice ride. Still deciding on paint and decals. Frustrating, parts of the paint and decals are mint, and part of it is pretty ugly . It is a decent looking 10 foot bike, if you don't look any closer.
As found, $20.
Ready to roll.
Suntour VGT Luxe, Cyclone II, SR Sakae Apex crank, 34t Megarange.

Raleigh and Holdsworth Combined
This was built as a surprise gift for a friend with a bad back that was afraid of getting stuck on a two wheel bike.
Would like to build another but have never found another Holdsworth conversion. The donor Raleigh is easy to source, and no trouble with decals.
Pair of Weinmann brakes bolted together

I have a pretty nice late 70's early 80's raleigh super record, that I picked up not too long ago, still had the original tires and was rideable on them. I'd post a picture, but I guess I need at least 10 posts before the board will let me.

I think i never added my 74 Pro to this thread. im suprised by that honestly. picked up from a friends uncle that bought it new and passed away i got his two bikes that he had in a storage unit. I will say this guy had great taste in bikes. both of the bikes were great bikes.
The only photo i have of the bike after cleaning it up. its currently on display at my local COOP that i volunteer with

Looks amazing. Would totally get one if it weren't $3200 and also apparently only available in the UK?
