Kids just pop in to say, "hi." Then turn around a go do something else.

I've got Internet...hooray!
In the process of moving. We bought a house in SoCal so we'll be splitting time between there and Reno. Family stuff pushed a move from Texas, I'm glad to have spent the time there. Many good friends and memories and I plan on going back once or twice a year to race and visit.

How the hell am I supposed to do base without being heckled from the Joe's Team Helicopter? I mean seriously, those Twinkies and Oreos you threw provided great motivation. Maybe the wrong motivation, but still!
RX, you will be missed, and I wish you all the best in the West. We were privilaged and honored to have you as a Champion.
Might as well sell your TT bike too, it's useless now.

tx, glad to hear you have things sorted out and are starting another comeback.
I went out for 5 hours by myself. I did stop and see my favorite female cat4 at her job. Any luck at her next race and she will get the points to cat up so she can race with the girls who she trains with and usually beats.

It looks like I have a couple of years and there will have to be a partial replacement of the right knee and most likely a total replacement of the left knee. It's been a long haul on this one, and frankly I thought I was done. I might still be, but it has to prove it to me first.
I've missed the forum, but after several months and steadily declining hours on the bike that eventually dwindled to no seat time I sort of dropped out for a while. The only good that came of that were some good steps forward with my music. My guitar collection swelled quite a bit as well
I highly recommend aquatic therapy where the pool has a treadmill in the bottom and zillions of jets with varying degrees of pressure for any type of leg rehab. Between the jets, treadmill, and resistance floats you get twice as much work in about half the time you do on a table doing excercises and weights. The no impact aspect lets you work longer as well.

Keep hanging in there with the knees. Once things get sorted out my understanding from folks who have gone through it is that there are few if any limiters. Fingers crossed that this will be your outcome.

Thank you. I greatly enjoyed my years in TX, I was fortunate to make so many good friends while I was there.

Hoping I can have a breakthrough like that as well. It's beautiful out right now. I would love for nothing more to go spend the rest of the afternoon on the bike.

Took the family to a movie audition for extras. We all filled out forms and talked to the casting people. It was kind of fun.

I left the Chicago area in the mid-1970's. Back then Chicago dogs were not franchised but rather were mom and pop places all over town. Mostly they were in shacks that you would think would blow over in a strong wind. Now the "dog" scene seems to be overrun by big chains like Portillos. They serve a nice and authentic dog and I enjoy them when I visit, but it just doesn't seem to be the same.
On a personal note, I needed a long ride after taking yesterday off due to two hard days in a row followed by 4+ hours on my feet chaperoning a middle school dance...but I played with my 19 month old son all day instead.

I slept in, took the wife out for brunch, went to the Depot for painting supplies, removed base and closet door moldings, patched holes, sanded patches, and drank a couple of Negra Modelo's, which might be the best beer in the world for this sort of task.
I'm going to take the wife out for Mexican now.
I did not ride.

"Joe's" as I call it (after saying Portillo's as though it were Spanish "ll") - is my current haunt. It may be a "chain" but it's still a local chain. As a Lean Manufacturing guy I LOVE going there and studying how they pump hundreds to thousands through every lunch time. The drive thru at the one next to my office wraps around the building twice and yet I never wait longer than 5 minutes.

We have a new team coach, and he asked us to tell him what kind of racers we are, and what our strengths/weaknesses are, and my response was a joke about having a special talent for sucking equally at all disciplines.
I was riding with my own coach the other day and I mentioned this to her, and asked what she thought I might actually be good at. Her response? "Well, you're a good sufferer."

Kool aid is good, but it's good because we have other, less flavorful drinks to compare it to. Without that comparison I fear that we would bore of kool aid and view it as colored water.
Lean Manufacturing - don't get caught up in the terminology and never lose site of the real intentions/focus - The systematic elimination of waste through incremental change/continuous improvement.
Having spent the majority of my life working in High Mix High Volume (large job/contract shops) the books written about streamlining production lines making millions of popsicle sticks have little meaning or cross over. Because of such Lean is a hard sell in my types of environments because the CEO can't go buy a book that will tell him step by step what he is supposed to do. You spend 90% of your time teaching others how to see waste and trying to then recommend tools to use to eliminate it.
New to lean - go out on the floor and find a multi-step process. I assure you there is waste in it. Look for something where you can move the machines closer, put the raw material on a kanban with the vendor, eliminate times when the operator has to put the part down, design new fixturing that allows the machine to do more without changeover or a second process, etc/. Do think that you have to spend capital to make it happen.
At the same time don't run over a well working system that has developed over years just because you want to make it a "pull: vs a "push". Focus on waste - not the tools.
