Return trip from visiting The Home Office and The Ancestral Home was uneventful, except whoever designed the seating in United's 737 fleet should be flogged. Did they think we're al 5'6"?
It's quite the contrast, going from how green everything is in PA and MD to how dry and brown it all is out here. OTOH, sleeping with the windows open instead of running the AC is delightful!

Hence "The Golden State". Mind you, the 1849 Gold Rush also figures in.

When I was there several years ago, we drove to Oakland and then rode our bikes to and up Mt Diablo. He pointed to some dry brown hills and asked me what color they were. I said "brown." He insisted they were the GOLD HILLS of California.
BTW I highly recommend riding up Mt Diablo to anyone in the area. It's climb-worthy.

Yeah I think it's the Gold Rush mainly.

Before the NJ ban took effect, the ShopRite near my office was selling rolls of plastic shopping bags. I thought that was a ingenious idea. I bought one roll. While I still have some, I wish I had bought a few rolls.

I feel a bit bad. Our building installed solar panels over the parking lot. They then created landscaped oval islands around the beams supporting the panels. One morning I noticed huge, wasp looking things buzzing around the plants growing in the islands and holes in the soft sand. The Wiki description of their habitat is exactly the same as what's in the parking lot. I thought they were some sort of dangerous wasps or hornets, so I reported them. The building sent out an exterminator who put down pesticide even though they were cicada killers that were not really a danger. They are now gone.

The issue for me is that I live alone and like to use the single use bags as trash bags because I typically do not generate that much non-recyclable trash/garbage. I often end up putting out a tall kitchen bag that is not even close to full.

BITD I used plastic shopping bags for litterbox scooping. Then I realized I was chucking too many because of damage, so I started using the canvas bags... except for once or twice a month when I'd go through the self-checkout aisle with a pint of ice cream and unhook a whole whack of brand-new plastic bags. No damage rejects. Then Austin banned the plastic and I had to go make occasional trips out of town for the same purpose.

I do most of my shopping in the city or in NJ. It's still strange to me if I go to a PA grocery store outside the city and see plastic bags and checkout. I don't think there will ever be a state-wide ban in PA. The people of Pennsyltucky would not stand for it. "Our freedom to make needless waste that our tax dollars go to disposing of is being taken away."
There have been protests and challenges from some large retailers and retail associations, of course, but those are very unlikely to succeed. Some self-styled 'citizen's groups' have been whingeing, but I think on the whole the ban is accepted.
