I'll be watching this thread, as I live in Kenosha, halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee, which you seem to have experience with.
By the way, did you know they're renewing work (at least political) on a new KRM (Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee) line going from Kenosha to Milwaukee? Metra didn't want to cooperate.

I hear Metra accommodates bikes on ALL trains now. Can't wait to go to Chicago on bikes with my daughter. (Metra Union Pacific North line)

I think the only exception is for the south shore electric lines.
