Could you assume that a Raleigh Competition of that vintage would be built of Reynolds 501 or 531?

I think you can assume it's a 531 frame though I have no idea as to when Raleigh started using 501 tubing.

Sweet. I may have to put up a little bid, just for the heck of it.

Reynolds 531 tubing for sure, most likely including Forks and Stays (mine does). Cool Huret "Jubilee" deraillers (try finding one of those on ebay for cheap!). Brooks saddle (B-17?), Normandy hubs, GB stem. Looks like it has T.A. 3 pin "professional" crankset on it, which was standard. Dropouts on mine are Huret, so probably same on this one. They have a wierd rear drop-out adjuster screw, otherwise everything else is pretty standard. ew

Holy smokes! That Raleigh is in my home town, from the pics looks like it might even be in my NEIGHBORHOOD.

1974 Aquila?
Anyone know about this Aquila frame I just bought on ebay? The guy said it's a Italian bike form 1974 that has never been built. All I can find on the nets is a Canadian company that has been around for 20 years that goes by the name Aquila.
Thanks for any info.

Sorry, just tryiing to get a few pedigreed bikes, and lose the Murray/Huffy thing behind. Still like Aerowinds and old Schwinns, though.

On another note, there was an italian car maker by the name of Aquila, so there is a chance, but I would go with canadian and more like early 80's.
Either way, it's a pretty rad looking frame.

Here is a link to the bike shop, called Racer Sportif, I will be by there tomorrow and I can pop in and pick the guy's brain for some more info. Beautiful bike by the way, it is a gorgeous colour and would look nice with all black components.

Gosh those are purdy, but the introductory price is more than I would spend on a complete bike.

Dolce far niente
Saw an ad on CL for a "men's 10 speed bike, $10". Sent a query and was told it was a Gran Sport. I got all excited and rushed over thinking maybe a Raleigh with 531 tubing - it's a Gran Sport all right..... a KHS Gran Sport, made out of gas pipe. Still, it was complete, working, and in good shape, so I forked over the ten-spot and took it home.
It's a nice small frame and a pretty periwinkle blue, so some lucky gal in Berkeley or The City will happily snap it up once I clean it off and make it presentable.
