On Sunday I made a quick trip down to St. Louis to do a ride in the hills south of the city. The highlight of the ride is the Sandy Creek Covered Bridge and the small park that it is surrounded by.

The park has a sign that is nearly a model of the bridge...

The bridge itself is quite scenic! It looks like something you'd see featured in a calendar or something....

Of course, I had to try to get a photo or two of the bike on the bridge. This gets complicated by the darkness in the middle of the bridge, so the bike ended up placed at the near end.

The park also has a display that provides info about covered bridges, such as the various ways of designing such a bridge. Pretty neat!

I did cross a proper bridge (or overpass?) during the ride. This happened to be the point where West Four Ridge road crossed over highway 21. It provides a clue as to just how hilly and wooded this area is! It's quite a contrast with the cornfields of Peoria.

It was nice to get the one shot of the bridge that could be used for a calendar (or jigsaw puzzle??), so no harm having people in other shots.
Besides, it's nice to show that people are visiting the park and enjoying it!

Also... they might be the people that will pass me on the narrow twisty roads in 20 minutes, so I try to develop good public relations with everyone.

The access has gotten a bit narrower over the last few years. It’s still rideable, although you aren’t supposed to ride over the trestles. That’s been in effect since around 1985.

They post signs at the bottom about "Watch For Falling Cyclists (and Bicycles)" I wonder?
It’s a wilderness area on both sides of the road. Bears can’t read and probably look on those falling cyclists as manna from heaven.

Did a 6 day tour where I went exactly where you are talking about. You make me want to go again.

Old Leicester Hwy bridge over the French Broad River
remnants of a former structure (old railroad bridge perhaps?) can be seen on the shore and in the water.

This is a new on on me. Where is this? I see freeway signs in the distance, so I'm guessing it's near I-680? SR-4? SR-242?

Yep, bingo, this was on the way to MADE the first day to help Dave Levy of TiCycles, Andy Newlands and Tony Pereira load in.

MADE provided the final inspiration to get it going again as it had been kicking my azz for no good reason that I could figure out.

Love this bridge, I ride it every chance I get, the surrounding infra sucks though.

End of the Ironhorse trail, near 4. I believe that is Marsh rd that runs behind the Concord airport.

This is the first year of construction, just a dirt path where the new bridge will begin:
