Bikes on Bridges

I was riding along the I&M trail, and it links through downtown Joliet and crosses the river. Further north, the trail went by the old prison where the Blues Brothers prison scenes were based. Nice trail.

On Sunday I made a quick trip down to St. Louis to do a ride in the hills south of the city. The highlight of the ride is the Sandy Creek Covered Bridge and the small park that it is surrounded by.
The park has a sign that is nearly a model of the bridge...
The bridge itself is quite scenic! It looks like something you'd see featured in a calendar or something....
Of course, I had to try to get a photo or two of the bike on the bridge. This gets complicated by the darkness in the middle of the bridge, so the bike ended up placed at the near end.
The park also has a display that provides info about covered bridges, such as the various ways of designing such a bridge. Pretty neat!
I did cross a proper bridge (or overpass?) during the ride. This happened to be the point where West Four Ridge road crossed over highway 21. It provides a clue as to just how hilly and wooded this area is! It's quite a contrast with the cornfields of Peoria.

Besides, it's nice to show that people are visiting the park and enjoying it!
Also... they might be the people that will pass me on the narrow twisty roads in 20 minutes, so I try to develop good public relations with everyone.

(and the folks who did pass me on the narrow twisty roads were very considerate)

I have ridden my bike across one of the draw bridges in Joliet, but the deck was down at the time. It was hard to not think about the movie while pedaling across.

Old Leicester Hwy bridge over the French Broad River
remnants of a former structure (old railroad bridge perhaps?) can be seen on the shore and in the water.

MADE provided the final inspiration to get it going again as it had been kicking my azz for no good reason that I could figure out.
Love this bridge, I ride it every chance I get, the surrounding infra sucks though.
