12F forecast for noon on Saturday, Grant's Tomb will be brrrrrr.
I'm trying to remember the coldest temps I've ever raced in. Garmin/Strava says 32F for that stupid Johnny Cake in the snow last year (or was it the year before). I see 30F for a branchbrook last year. I remember some cold Bethels but looking at Strava I can't find anything below mid-30s.

i'll be ski racing on saturday in warm temps ... ~30-34F. in those temps i go without any base layer and just use a thin race suit.
it's funny how that is warm for skiing but super cold for cycling.

I did several races in the 30 degree range when I was racing collegiate, and I don't miss it. Racing road in those temperatures sucks. Cyclocross brings the range down a bit, but not nearly as low as 12 degrees.

There are good reasons for racing fatbikes on groomed trails instead of road bikes if the roads are clear. Speed creating pressurized sub-freezing air that is forced into your very sensitive lungs is the biggest. Relearning how to breathe completely under a face covering is up there too. Blood circulation in extremities is by far the most serious under most conditions though.
GC knows I don't shy away from doing couple hour rides in double digit negative temps with whatever windchill +30 mph winds brings that down to. Because we are warm blooded the balance is a lot more delicate than it is in high heat. You give up a lot of mild weather performance to be prepared for hard efforts in that level of cold. I'd pass on that and any further races in those conditions without a second thought. Unless a 40 degree upward temp swing in less than a handful of hours was assured.

Snow forecast for this Friday night/Saturday morning, and snow on the long range forecast for next weekend too.
Spring racing might just be a washout in the northeast... btw did Plainville die forever or were there special circumstances this year?

Someone told me last year he was done with the Series (one of his team members). I haven't asked him myself.

Ah, my second race and first west-coast podium as a cat 4 (but they didn't even do a podium cuz the weather was so terrible) was a sub 40, raining, technical crit with a u-turn, and descent into a fast right hander. Was fun until waiting for results afterwards.
It's crazy how weather can make a race can stand out...
Bariani road race last year with pouring rain and strong wind.
Turlock lake road race where it was raining so hard we had to race through lakes, basically.
That time I tried riding to the training crit in cold January rain and slashed my tire far from shelter and had to walk around for half an hour waiting for my wife to pick me up.

Lack of title sponsor at the 11th hour, to the point that the organizers announced they were canceling the race. Fortunately, the community came through and the race is back on.
