Every sock I've worn is just a sock. Once it's on I forget about it. I don't need my socks to make a fashion statement, I just want them to last forever because going sock shopping is annoying. I do like these ones I got at Target maybe $10 for 3 pairs. I've noticed they last a while and don't get all stretched out as quickly...

My mind is blown.
I used to wear my everyday socks until I was given a pair of cycling socks once, it was a revelation.

I'm extremely picky about my socks. For some reason, some socks I can wear when I ride, and others drive me crazy. Paying $10+ is totally reasonable to me for socks that feel good when I ride and don't die (lose compression or tightness) after a few washes. You only need like 3-4 pairs really.

I am a big fan of Coolmax socks for the summer. They are thin and breathe well, and in a 3 pack are $4/pr. Any brand will do. However I am very picky about cold and wet weather socks. Merino wool only, and I have several pairs each of four thicknesses. I am miserable on the bike when my feet are cold.

I bought cycling socks when I get my shoes online over a year ago, and have two pairs. When it's below 50 degrees I'll wear Smartwool ski socks, but even then my toes will get a little cold. I was thinking of putting packing tape on the tops of my shoes since I don't have toe covers. I tried the plastic bag thing last year, and I tried toe warmers, but nothing really works when it's 30 degrees. Guess I should invest in the booties.
When I commute to and from work (10 miles) I just wear dress socks.

Is it normal to require teams to wear matching helmet? Matching socks?
I'm required to purchase a matching Rudy Project Sterling, MSRP $250. Oh but we get a great 55% discount so it's "only" twice what my perfectly functioning helmet cost. Not sure the owner realizes 55% off a $250 helmet is not a good deal for lowly peasants. Then he posts the required $12 socks.
I just want to tell him us poor middle class kids buy socks at Target or WalMart, but the helmet almost makes $12 socks seem like a steal. I'm just waiting for the required $200 base layer. Talk about upper class being out of touch with reality.

My dog ate my favorite pair of sock guy socks. They had gorillas on them and I haven't been able to find the same pair again. I was legitimately sad about the loss.

Wow. I have so many pairs of cycling socks, they have their own drawer. And I have the categorized:some are for trainer use, others for winter, summer training or racing.
As for kits, my team had required guys to buy a new kit each year. The design was the same but sponsor logos changed. We are redesigning for this year as the old design is now five years old. And this year we are doubling team dues but providing jerseys for everyone and encouraging everyone to buy the bibs. But we are a nonprofit first and cycling team/race team second.

See, this is interesting to me because my team changes the whole design each year so you're required to make a kit order. It's like 700-800 bucks I spend on clothing each season and I don't think a total redesign is always necessary. Although, changing sponsor logos would be almost more frustrating because then you're buying yourself the same clothing!

We've redesigned our kit every year except the first three. Our sponsors though, provide us one free kit, additional kits are sold to us at cost.

My team is guilty of this. It's expensive and a pain in the butt.

I have
I refuse to spend part of my life looking for the matching gorilla sock.
- 20 identical pairs of calf length black socks (for work)
- 20 identical pairs of below ankle length white socks (for 'stuff')
- 10 identical pairs of below ankle length black socks (for cycling)

You were below the ankle socks on your bike, your opinion is invalid. Maybe try try-athlons?
