Another beautiful december day here. 4.5 hours. the first 2.5-3 with a group then the rest solo. the group portion was probably easier than i would have liked, but it was nice to ride with people for a change.
16.5hrs for the week.
this week is the official beginning of morning roller season. let's hope it goes better than last winter. i have some more concrete goals and i think my motivation is at a better spot, so i've got high hopes.

1 hr on zwift; I've been trying to hit SST on all these rides
brings me to 5 hrs and 350 TSS for the week. caught a cold a few days ago and took 2 days off the bike. I'm still aiming to work up to 1 hr each day, 7 hrs per week is enough to build me some fitness, especially on the trainer, where theres little wasted time.

rode to and from a training crit.
week is now 18 hours, 323 miles, 940tss, TSB now -40. Am prepared for an old-time case of the Monday fatigue tomorrow, but happy to be healthy and uninjured.

A bunch of intervals on zwift. Finally saw someone I know on there and am also figuring out how to sprint on a trainer. Still down 300 watts from a full sprint, but way better than last week.
440 TSS on 5 1/2 hours of trainer bliss for the week. I guess that also equals 0 feet climbed.

Juniors biggest mileage week ever - he says. I'm not so sure. 310miles, 20K ft climbing. In bed by 8:00 tonight.
My wife and I run about 20mi/week. She is having toe issues so transitioning to cycling. I got her TT clip-ons working today. I forgot how talented she is. I expect, absent rain, we'll be getting in 100 or so a week. I need to drop a lot of weight - easy - stop drinking [as much] beer. Not sure I am ready for that yet, but the riding will be good.

nothing yesterday, as I thought changing a crankset would be straightforward enough, not quite, but it's getting there! got the new BB and crankset on, just have to fix the chain size and adjusting the FD. It's a relatively simple task but I feel a small sense of accomplishment doing my own work, as agonizingly slow as I can be sometimes. Taking the old BB and crankset out took some elbow grease though, as they've probably never been removed in 20 years.

Off. Given the cooler weather this seems like a perfectly planned rest week. What is odd is my tsb is the most negative it has ever been but I feel basically OK and like I could extend the block. I am very curious to see what happens when I freshen up.

but really, make discipline the goal. When you are tired and don't want to do your easy ride it's easy to justify that the easy ride doesn't matter that much. The goal though, is to be disciplined with your riding and to make yourself do it. That's who you are. Riding 15 miles is easy. Getting out the door is harder.

agreed. i ride almost every day in the summer months due to commuting but last winter when i drove into work i was really only riding 2-3 days between M-F and I think that spending more time off the bike hurt me, even if just mentally.

Like Fudgy said, discipline is the goal. Use your current motivation to get the habits and discipline in place so when your motivation wanes when it is like dead ass of winter you still hop on the bike for a bit. Eventually it feels way too weird to not ride.

That's part of why I sucked it up today and rode to work instead of catching a ride with my wife. Even though the temperature is only going to steadily drop all day.
Last week was 13.35 hours, my biggest since early September. And it included no commuting at all, so it's my largest block of training hours... maybe ever? Still building slow, though, so 550 TSS more or less across that time. Not too bad. (Edit: that assumes my FTP entered in Cycling Analytics is accurate... really need to do an outdoor test on fresh legs)
The real trick is going to be remembering to start incorporating the stretching and strength work I need.

tired from last week so I backed off on the bike portion of my strength workout
30 minute - warm up
COMPLEX 1 (4 ROUNDS)
Drop Knee Squat - 8
Run Stance Squats - 3
box jumps - 10
single leg deadlift - 8
COMPLEX 2 (4 ROUNDS)
bulgarian split squat - 8
skaters - 30
Box Jumps - 10
single leg bridge - 8
COMPLEX 3 (4 ROUNDS)
pistol squat - 6
side lunge - 6
box jumps - 10
Rubber Band Walk. Forwards, Backwards, side to side. - 2 minutes
30 minutes - Z3
I can't really emphasize how damn hard this is. The strength portion is an hour of non stop activity. I'm just utterly turned inside out when it's over. It's incredibly taxing on the core as well. I'd have not thought that when I put it together.

19 hours last week, 945 TSS. 24 hours including last Sunday..
Rain this week, will probably be stuck on the trainer unless I can get a rain bike together. Tryna keep my race bike clean!!

Thx - being off work helped, a ton.
I probably need to start doing more quality work, instead of just a lot of work.. but it's better than nothing, that's for sure!
