I managed a nice late-morning forty-miler in my favorite cool & cloudy weather.
At 4 o'clock, the skies unleashed hail and huge downpours, here near the bottom of GMR.
Crazy! So happy we replaced our roof last year!

Last full nite ride of the season. Buddy on his S5 hit the very first pot hole dropping into Sorrento Valley an pinched the sidewall at the edge of rim. Instant flat. Iduno how the rim is looking today. Threw a tube in his Enve hookless and limped it back to the car. Bypassed the planned +10miles to Torrey Pines. Oh well. better to be safe and scream down that decent in the dark at 40+ with hole in the sidewall.
I had my diverge with 47c tires, i didn't care about pot holes

Hiked Peters Canyon with my son (3.3 miles) and decided to bike it too in the opposite direction (9.8 miles); my first time on SPD. Had to walk one short downhill segment with multiple more or less longitudinal ruts that looked just wide enough to eat my wheels and tires. Walking in SH-RX600 is much more precarious than trail runners! Don't know how cyclocross people run in them.

Off the bike after a bad crash left me having seizures. Lost my driver's licence too. Being treated with drugs and when neurologist clears me with the DMV screw the car, I'm back on the bike. (As to a more controversial thread, were it not for the helmet I would be driving a motorized wheelchair.)

You know it's a good restaurant when the bench area is painted to match your Bianch. Berth 55 in Long Beach. Just had a red snapper/scallop plate so its time to head back home.

I wish I could put long hours into my cycling like some of you guys, but I start getting calls from either my kids or wife after the 1-2 hour mark! Anyways, I put in a quick 21 miles on Saturday enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. I did some brisk climbing over at Elysian, Echo Park and sprinted the LA River on the gravel bike.

Not a good winter for me due to getting sick a few times and home remodeling eating away riding time.
Huffed and puffed for 30 miles and 3.8K of climb in La Habra Hgts and Whittier Hills.
Just glad to be riding on a mostly sunny 70F day.

Picked up a used 15' smartweld Allez Friday night. swapped stems and wheels/pads and rode it 100 miles the next day. Blind fitting the spesh power saddle. Took the Saddle to BB measurement from the Cervelo and ran with that setup for the hundo. It came with complete Force 22 mech grouppo which needs some tuning of max range limits screws.
Bike road pretty darn nice for alum. The swork carbon seat post it came with def helped with the rear end vibration, and not as flexy as the Roval Terra post that's on my gravel bike. Not a fan of the looks of the atomic deep drop handlebars, but they did feel good while using them. Might ditch them for modern set of compact drops.

CAT7RDR area ain't no joke. No massive, 2+ mile climbs but oodles of short and steep combined with uphill stretches seemingly, custom-designed, to make you uncomfortable.
people sleep on it because it's not coastal or angeles national forest or a seemingly, endless bike path to and fro. you wanna get your climb on and/or prep for a multitude of
shorter, hard efforts, it's a must do. if you wanna replicate hc climbs from professional cycling tours of 10+ miles, boogie over to angeles nf.
there is an intimacy in the whittier/la habra hills area that is lacking is nearly all socal riding. the streets are very narrow. generally, not much traffic and what there is, you hear, sense, feel, see
well in advance. the streets are even tighter than they are on the palos verdes peninsula so not the best area for mad descenders.

I am still recovering from my broken hip and surgery. I decided a nice climbing ride would help . It isn't a huge climb , but gentle , sometimes a bit steep , 4.8 mile ride to the end of a beautiful canyon near my home. The stream was flowing and I was alone on this cloudy , cool morning.
At the turnaround , now comes the fun part .....heading out!!!

I was unable to get on my bike on Saturday, but did 50mi/3800' on gravel bikes (mostly on pavement) with a good friend on Sunday morning, including the Arroyo BT, LART, a fun loop in Griffith Park, and a return via Chevy Chase into La Canada. We had initially planned going up and over the Verdugo Hills via Stough Canyon and La Tuna, after Griffith Park, but opted for a quicker route home. https://www.strava.com/activities/10932436301
I tested out a top tube bag for the first time. It was excellent for quick access to snacks. For events/races, this is definitely going to be part of my bike setup.

Nice ride! You took all my favorite routes and combined them together! Though the rains have made the fire roads at Griffith Park so bad, it's better just to take the gravel bike so you don't have to worry about all the debris and massive potholes. I think on one day I saw like 4 flats on my way up to the Observatory!

I went up Azusa Canyon solo, turning around at about the 3,500 foot level.
The sun disappeared behind the clouds, making for a somewhat frigid descent.
My best climbing days are a distant memory now. My buddies routinely ride to Crystal Lake.
At my turnaround point. Major headwinds coming down.
Rare sight to see a full San Gabriel Reservoir
