Has this ever been successfully executed in the real world?

Maybe if there were multiple flashing signs with instructions, they could get 70% of drivers to follow suit. But with just one or two? Nope.

I have a mid compact (so I think 36t?) and a 30t on the outside of my 12sp Ultegra cassette on the TCR. There are times when I wish I would have one extra click when things are really steep and I don't want to force it so hard. But that's quite seldom so maybe I'm alright.
On my Venge, standard 53/39 and 28t on a Force 22 groupset. Bike's a total POS (as is the gearing) but I only ride it when I am going to be pressing hard on the pedals.

They make a statement, but what that statement is, is in the eye of the beholder.

All of our local slip outs are mountain slides, usually on some pretty steep grades.

Regarding Cybertrucks, my son has one almost delivered. He also has two model 3s and my wife drives a Y so make fun all you want. I can take it.

Padres game was quite nice. Gorgeous out, low 70s and lightly breezy. Parked ~1.5 miles away above downtown and walked in to avoid the post game traffic and parking fees. And we won! We scored HRs on our second and third at-bats and were up 4-0 by the time I left in the 8th. Had a mother's day gathering to attend at my godmother's place.
Here's a photo of our group, I'm in blue. The lady on the far right was not part of our group, but she did a most excellent job of photo-bombing IMO
