I used to get negative decoupling numbers sometimes back when I wore the hr strap

I'd be surprised if I have many entire rides with negative decoupling, but I'll have long segments if I am really steady and not blown. Here is one from the other day.

Code:
Lap 4 (0:52:18.69):
	Duration: 52:18
	Work: 678 kJ
	TSS: 52.5 (intensity factor 0.776)
	Norm Power:	217
	VI: 1
	Pw:HR: -2.59%
	Distance: 19.059 mi
	Elevation Gain: 593 ft
	Elevation Loss: 585 ft
	Grade: 0.0 % (14 ft)
			Min	Max	Avg
	Power: 47	473	216 watts
	Heart Rate: 136	160	145 bpm
	Cadence: 38	115	96 rpm
	Speed: 2.1	37	21.9 mph
	Altitude: 92	240	156 ft

Sometimes I consider buying a HR strap for my PT head.

What are the benefits of having both HR and power? I wear a HR monitor on my MTB, but that's because I don't have power.

Besides the decoupling number, I barely look at my hr.

I still haven't found much use for it. I believe with more formal sports/fitness education, there could be a lot to pull from it regarding recovery rates and efficiency, but I don't care so much about tweaking those. I'm always battling just to get as much base fitness as possible on 6-7 hours/wk.

I'm a more data is better kinda guy, and always like seeing what my HR isndoing relative to power.

Just started playing with GC today. I'm liking it so far. The Metrics tab is pretty cool.

From what I've been reading, xPower is pretty much the same as NP. However I'm seeing differences of 10-40 watts between GC and WKO for the exact same ride. Is that just because of the way it's calculated?

WKO:
Duration: 1:03:09
Work: 928 kJ
Avg Power: 245
Norm Power: 314

GC:
Duration: 1:03:09
Work: 927
Avg Power: 245
xPower: 289

Also, is there any way to see more than one weekly summary at a time (like the Summary box in WKO)?

helpful on recovery rides. helpful to diagnose potential overtraining syndrome. helpful to figure out whether you should attack on that hill or not.

etc

the main reason I don't wear mine is I find it uncomfortable and am not really paying attention to any numbers but power these days, but that doesn't mean it isn't helpful.

+1

I can easily identify breaks (or attempts at one) via HR, whereas with power sometimes it's hard to pick out the 'hard' moments in a race.

That said, I never pay attention to the decoupling numbers, they don't seem useful over a whole ride. (tho I'm sure they are to someone)

the overtraining part definitely interests me, as well as telling when I'm really off versus when I just don't feel strong. I can kinda tell when I'm overtrained just by RPE, but it's not as good as a number. I don't mind wearing my strap when on the MTB, so I doubt I'd mind wearing one on the road.

you interested in selling yours?

Again, sorry if this has come up, I started reading this thread from the beginning, but I'm only about 10 pages in.
Just to update in case any one else runs into this: I got the newest software from Garmin on the 705 and I haven't has this issue since.

My first day of training with power, did a 20 minute test on a 6% grade, not
my best time up this particular hill, but still a good effort for me @ 139ish lbs.

For watt/kilo calculations should I be interested in normalized power or average? Either way I'm close to 4w/kilo on this particular hill.

Peak 20min (243 watts):
Duration: 20:01
Work: 291 kJ
TSS: 35.7 (intensity factor 1.034)
Norm Power: 250
VI: 1.03
Pw:HR: 13.31%
Pa:HR: 13.36%
Distance: 4.022 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 123 411 243 watts
Heart Rate: 136 191 169 bpm
Cadence: 57 108 83 rpm
Speed: 9.2 16.6 12.1 mph
Pace 3:37 6:31 4:59 min/mi
Hub Torque: 56 226 135 lb-in
Crank Torque: 110 454 250 lb-in

Could someone clue me in on calibrating a powertap pro+ with a 705 edge?

can't remember the exact menu, but Settings->Accessories(?)->Calibrate

(it's the screen where you can re-scan for PT/HR units, at the bottom of it is the Calibrate(?) button)

Thanks. Is it like my old SL? With that one I had to be coasting when I did the calibration.

705 calibrates when the wheel is stopped. there's also a check box so that it will auto calibrate when stopped.

newbie question, I am using GC.

If I am doing some hill repeats each about 15min long and with a 6min rest(going back down to start)
Is there anyway to get separate plots and cp graphs for each ride up the hill ?
I know I can use the mouse to box out a single area but the graphs and ride summaries are still for all the data downloaded.

There isn't any way in GC to have the graphs overlayed but you can mark the intervals (shift-left click) and see all of the data broken out by interval. If you want the graphs overlayed you can do it manually in excel or use WKO.

Whenever I wear my HR strap with my PM it only picks up randomly. It'll go 10 minutes without reading, and then read it for a minute, and then cut out again for a bit. So I never actually get real readings, hence I don't wear it anymore. Is there something that I'm doing wrong to cause this? Do you have to calibrate the strap to the computer somehow? I never really put much thought in to it, but I've considered wearing it lately so I guess I should figure it out. I have a wired PT and the standard cycleops computer as well.
