I hear you: I've felt that for 32 years on this old SR... It still gives me the same amazing response to my push on the pedals. That response that sold me years ago. True, newer bikes are smooth and easier to shift, but this 32 year old "technology" never ceases to impress...

You betchya I'm the original... owner that is! Have so many memories wrapped around this one. Anyway, don't know much about old panheads or shovels and such, but I do ride a '73 Bonneville so I can talk about some torque too...

I can identify with the Triumph love, I worked in one of the Triumph/BSA dealers out town had, in 1973 and 1974. They also carried OSSA, Rickman, Honda. Very wide selection of rides. I raced an OSSA Stiletto 250 in motocross for 2 years.

Way off topic and I don't mean any ill-will... But had to post mine... For you Bill, glad to see you post!

1986 SR400 that just joined the existing C'dale hoard tonight.Thankfully the bars and wheels are original. Just the stem has been changed. Wish I had the original Nitto, but they're easy enough to find. I already have the stock silvery white Benotto style bar tape they came with.,,,BD

Here's my get-good steed, newly set-up for the season:
She's a '91 SR400 in Guard's Red, w/ RX100 drivetrain & brakes, original wheels, Conti Gatorskin 28c rough-street tires, and a 160 mm Suntour/Sugino crankset for my Fred Flintstone legs.
I'm very gradually learning the ins & outs of general setup, so the above is a bit of a "rough sketch," if you will. Currently dialing-in my fit and my front derailer setup to match the 39/48 chainrings.

Wow, what a nice riding bike. VERY happy with my $80 purchase! It's the same saddle even! Black shoe polish saved it for the time being.,,,,BD

I picked up this early '90s Cannondale M800 today for $50. I gave it a good wash and will be starting with the overhaul and putting on new tires.

'96 CAAD3 from the frame-trade-in program, so I guess it's officially vintage.
Built it myself as a broke-assed undergrad, with the LX/XT group from my smashed-up Tomac/Raleigh, and lots of one-off parts scrounged from the back rooms of Blacksburg's bike shops.
Raced it, commuted on it, ran a couple of 2 and 3 day tours with it, wore out 7-8 sets of tires.
Upgraded the fork (under warranty!) with an '07; put the riser bars and a trailer hitch for taking the kids to the park.
And, Chuckk, that matte paint is never, ever clean

Both bikes ran off and retired up here in Austin! There has been a lot of old Cannonballs on CL here lately.

Chuckk, Well, I'll keep looking for a snap shot of the '94 to see if I had a memory glitch, seems likely. What size is the red 2.8, 58 cm? Mine was a 58 cm.
