Through Your Eyes: A Bike Forums Scavenger Hunt!
For many of us, there are things in our neighborhood or city that we see every day while riding our bike, or maybe we only see it for a moment and then never see it again.
Weird, wonderful, magical, or maybe just downright funny things. So, I thought that it would be fun to share some of those mental images w/ each other as a C&V scavenger hunt. I plan on being a real shutter-bug this year, as I attempt to log a personal record number of days on the saddle.
There are no rules to this scavenger hunt, other than it should be related to Classic and/or Vintage. If you know the story behind it great, if not no biggie....Maybe just tell us why you like it. We have an abundance of oddities here in Boulder and Denver, so I'll be checking in often....Take your time with this project; We have a whole wonderful season of riding ahead of us!
I'll start; We have a great young kid, Eric, who owns the local independent coffeehouse in our neighborhood. He also owns the great little neighborhood pub right next to it.
He is a known world traveler and true gypsy-at-heart and rumor has it that he shipped this over as a way to taxi the drunks home for free at closing time, but they weren't game for the ride (I sure would be!)
Rickshaw: Definitely vintage!

I was riding along at a pretty fast clip and yelled to the guy as I was passing "Nice led sled!"
He yells back "Nice Moto, I've got a '73!" So of course I had to turn back and say hi....I ended up telling him that he should post it on C&V as it sounds pretty sweet.....He said he'll definitely join us.
That is all

The only weird or unusual thing I've seen on my rides lately is 5-6 bullet casings, separated by about 30-40 feet, laying on the shoulder. Makes me glad I don't ride through there at night. VERY nice sled, needs red wheels and moon discs though.

I waited for 20 minutes hoping the owner would walk out and tell me about it, but no luck......

I wrecked one of those once, bob. the one I wrecked was silver, though, not that almost Bianchi color. I also used to race with a guy that owned a '60 and worked in an upholstery shop. He recovered the seats with custom covers, a big world C (campagnolo) logo on the back cushion of each seat.

When I was shopping for my last Suburban (a 78), I met a para-medic who had several, including one for his wife & another for the daughter. Said he had seldom seen a fatality in a Suburban, they always come out in better shape than everyone else.

Bob,
If you and Scooper start a VW/Schwinn race support team, can I quit my job immediately and come to work for you!!!!!!!!!!!??
Anyways, here is the saddest bike in all of Denver... I am going to leave a note on it to ask this student if they'd like some help lubing it up and replacing the chain because I can't take seeing this anymore

And these 2 beauties are bike rack regulars that you'll find racing through LoDo every morning, 2 of my very favorites but I'm not sure what to think about the "2 cheek, no nose" saddle....Seems to work well for the guy though. (Without a saddle nose, I feel like I can't steer the bike as well, but that's just me.)

What a great idea! I usually carry my digital camera around when I ride. I'll keep my eyes open for material now.

That Suburban looks to be painted in Forest Service green, the color of all FS vehicles up until a few years ago. Possibly a refugee from a Forest Service vehicle auction!

I saw this at a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station a while back. Not sure what was underneath all that fabric. My retinas are still burning.....

The suburban is a '62. Has the full wrap around windshield and the angled series badge. My first "car" was a '62 pickup.

I think it's the 'weird and amazing things you'll see on my ride' thread. Ive got to admit, I'm shocked at the utter stupidity of locking a 20th anniversary Serotta CSI (#13 no less) to a bike rack, in full dress Campy 10 as well. Just the seat post is worth as much as the entire bike locked next to it. Anybody got a #6 on you? What's that? You all do? Of course you do!

Exactly Danny,
you don't have to worry about the Serrota being locked up there. The lab is high-security and nobody is getting off of the campus w/ any of our rides. People are generally courteous and don't scratch up other bikes too.
Zorro,
I'll be PM'ing you soon as I scored 1 of the dearailleurs for you. Still looking for the other 2...
Now back to the scavenger hunt:
This one falls under the "wonderful" category; You will find this beauty in front of one of Denver's most infamous steak joints every day and if you can find it, the owner will probably buy you a drink:
