It depends on what your definition is of best. You could buy a custom set of Rocket 7 shoes, I think they are around $1200 per pair. Rocket 7 takes a plaster cast of your feet and builds the shoes to fit. I know I don't needs shoes that are custom fitted to me feet. Shimanos are great for the value. You get a lot for the money with them, but I find that Sidis feel better on my feet. Plus, you can replace most of the parts on Sidis so they should last longer. If you buy at the right time of the year, you can pick up Sidis on sale at a much more reasonable price.
I would like to try Lake shoes since they make Speedplay specific shoes.

I have only tried one pair of shoes which were around $40 from nashbar. They are really comfortable for me so I don't really think any other shoe will help me perform better. But since I have not tried any other shoes I don't know how they feel.
