does anyone know how to tighten down the planet-x brake calipers so that they don't move when you pull the brake lever?
edit: i think i was able to set up the front one, but on the back only one arm moves :/

Have to answer your question here, since I can't PM yet. I haven't gotten a scale, but when I brought the bike to the bike shop, I had asked them to weigh it. I wasn't able to pick it up, but was told it came in at 19lbs. I wasn't given any info other than that. Was a little disappointed with that answer. It sure does seem a lot lighter. Anways, when I purchased the bike, it was bought on ebay, and did not come with stock Fuji bars, so I don't know the weight.
I'm still itching to ride, but the weather is everything but cooperative in Northeast Vermont at the moment. Rain, then snow is all we're getting as of yet. The bike is tuned up and ready to ride!

Ok, it's killing me. Does anybody know what size seatpost clamp I would need for the Scott addict R3 or how I would find out without taking it off, seat tube measures about 35.5, which seems like a weird size. Any suggestions for blingy weenie seatpost clamps?

My scales from amazon arrived! If anyone wants to know, a dura ace hub / open pro wheelset with butted spokes weighs 1910g with strips. My steel frameset that is to be replaced weighs 3300g. Awesome.

Gotcha - yeah, traffic is a PITA right now. That's part of the reason I commute by bike - sometimes it's actually faster. A couple weeks ago I ran my Droid app for cycling in my car one day and on my bike the next. I had a higher average speed on the bike, lol.

My Easton EA90SLX Wheels w/ a SRAM PG1070 11-23 Cassette, Generic Tubes (95g each), Sefas Seca RS Tires came out to weigh:
Front Wheel- 638g
Tires- 430g
Tubes- 190g
Skewers- 110g
Rear Wheel w/ Cassette- 1087g
TOTAL Weight- 2455g
Or I could go with a set up Yishun 50mm Tubulars:
Wheels- 1425g
Skewers- 45g
Vittoria Corsa Tires- 480g
TOTAL Weight- 1950g and 50mm deep instead of 24mm deep (thats 505g!!!)
Front Wheel- 638g
Tires- 430g
Tubes- 190g
Skewers- 110g
Rear Wheel w/ Cassette- 1087g
TOTAL Weight- 2455g

^which ea90slx are they? I just bought the Performance ones (the "special edition" AKA [overstock] 2008 ones ). Still with the 10% discount and Performance member discount they came in at less than $450 [with shipping].
I just can't convince myself to buy tubulars as a light weight option. Not when there are the new version of the EA90slx that can weigh in at under 1400g (when you switch up rim tape).
If you're talking aerodynamic + weight savings advantage then sure tubulars with deep rims are great. I just hate the idea of reglueing a whole spare tire on during a flat in the NYC streets.
here are my weights:
Front (637g) and Back (899g) with Easton supplied rim tape. The rim tape looks to be high quality.
All in all 1536g. Very good for aluminum clinchers.
Then I took out the rimtape:
Front (619g) Back (883g)
total 1502g so getting to sub 1500g territory.
Then I took off the decals...
only 9g so the decals are surprisingly light. I would have left them on but I like them bare.
So 1,494g totally bare. Not bad.
Does anyone have experience with the Rox Superdute rim tape? Not the Rox ultralight stuff, but the Superdute version. Supposedly weighs sub 4g per strip (actual WW lisitings at 5g per).
You can actually order it from Niagara Cycle for $6.82 and just chose the First Class Mail shipping option (44¢) for a total of $7.81.
I have some on order and hopefully I'll try it out on the weekend.

From my research the Blacksets are good wheels but actual weights vary wildly. From online research they can come in under 1500g and up to near 1600g all without rim tape.

Rode the Trek today, and stopped by the LBS. With the Spinergys on it, she came in at 16.12lbs. So with the Zipps w/ Red cass. and KCNC skewers, would drop nearly a pound, and it would be well into the 15lbs range. I'm thinking bars, will be transferred from the other bike soon, as it will get new ones, Extralite headset, carbon cages that should get it sub 15lbs on the Zipps, and about 15.5lbs with my Spinergys, probably 16.75lbs with my Rolfs. What did I get myself into?

Yes I weighed these wheels with the free hub. Free hubs are where a lot of weight can be saved (especially if its aluminum vs steel).

lol i made the dumb decision to buy my park tools scale from the LBS.....when it arrived they asked if I was a seller. haha
I proibably have the $500 versions...would make sense though, I bought them for $400.

Which would be a better route....upgrading my Specialized Allez that I already have or purchasing a much lighter bike and making it even lighter making my Allez a nice training/rain bike.
I mean later down the road if I went with a second bike I would make the Allez lighter (duh)
$3,100 for a November race bike w/ Force and 50mm tubulars (I think it weighs 15lb. too)
would be nice to buy a "local" bike seller....its a chinese frame, but at least their wouldnt be many November bikes around.

here's a weight weenie tip: use the WW listing page to find out weights of components before purchasing them. Real weights also has a similar page.
this will save you time and money when you contemplate purchases. Plus (especially with newer bikes) you may already have something thats [relatively] light weight - so it won't be cost effective to upgrade.
certain things are really cheap and are no brainers for weight upgrades. seatpost clamps (kcnc/woodman/ect) have superlight weight clamps that are strong and will cut the old clamp weight in half they can be purchased for $15-30.. lightweight innertubes (like the performance ones or cheng shin) are all under 8 bucks a tube and will weigh in at 55g-70g cutting normal tubes weight in half.
it all starts with the frame and wheels right? Sometimes the fork too (you never know if you have a heavyweight with a metal steerer).
so a frame below or/in the 1000g range and wheels in the 1400g range and you can work around that easily for lightweight bike status.
I say invest in nice wheels first, then think about upgrading a new bike. You can swap over the wheels to the new bike when it comes. Seeing bonktown actually have easton ea70 wheels for $250 today means that you can get sub "1700g" for cheap now to put on the 2nd bike.
this will save you time and money when you contemplate purchases. Plus (especially with newer bikes) you may already have something thats [relatively] light weight - so it won't be cost effective to upgrade.

yea my other option was to go with a chinese frameset and better wheels with some lightweight parts.....itll be cheaper, but I would only have the one bike.
