Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Went to Bicycle Miami in South beach last night. They had shop kits made by gio, so on my wife’s insistence I picked up to kits. One is classic all white with italian flag strips and Miami across the chest, the other is pink and blue with Miami vice style lettering. Light weight, looks good.

They have the cannondale system cross bike for half off. Wife said go for it, of course my size is in the warehouse and logistics of getting it home, plus I don’t really need it and no storage. The price just seemed to good to be true.
2300.00 Sram force mechanical 11 speed.

AliExpress Drop Bars. $23 of Chineseium Carbon Fiber goodness. These are S. platt SS bars, Very light and I gave them the perfunctory stress test and they passed.

S. Platt, or Splatt ..... hopefully that is just a poor naming choice and not foreshadowing!!

How much do you weigh, and how hard do you ride? I’ve been looking at china bars for awhile but scared of the outcome.

I weight 170 and and my rides are what I would consider casual, at the moment. I live in a very flat area so I will rarely get out of the saddle to climb a hill. And I'm pretty easy on the hands while riding so I don't think I'm going to stress them at all.

What I did do is grab the handlebars and try like hell to break them, listening for any cracking, so I could return them if necessary. I'm happy to report that I didn't hear anything. So I am confident that they will last a while for me. If you do buy a pair, you should do you due diligence until you build confidence in them. But at $23 it's not the cost you should worry about. Avoiding disaster is the key, not the cash. Good luck!

23.00 Dollars plus the 40.99 for the new tape, plus the 75.00 for the install plus wrapping. Adds up. Which is why I am still thinking about it and have not executed.

$40.99 for new bar tape? Is that stuff gold plated? Fizik sticky .... $13
$75 for the install... Nope Not only am I doing it myself, I'm putting in all new cabling with a Jagwire Road kit .... $25
Plus I'm mounting up the microShift 3x8 shifters $105

If you are happy with your shifters you save that $105.

Why can't you install the bars yourself?

Would have to cut the hydraulic lines, don’t want to do that, not to mention I don’t have time. Something I have learned, whenever I start working on something the time I think it is going to take and the actual time are usually way off. Also my bar wrapping skills are sub par and my vanity has moved beyond my wife’s skills. (She used to wrap my bars).

Nothing but supacaz for these fingers.

Your wife is a keeper! Maybe you should ply her with some new tools and she can install the new bars for you.

I actually have a few power meters...4iiii and Favero Assiomos are awesome. Garmin Rally SPD pedals are a mild regret.

Hey, Shane Miller (GPLama) just put this out on the 4i meters. Could be worth a look

True, I decided to go ahead and pick up the new Red thread on chainring and power meter... the only thing I could not get was the rear mech and cassette as I do not have the UDH frame... But if I get a new frame with UDH down the road, then all I have to do it get them for the full set.... The only thing I am waiting on is the Force derailleur and cassette I ordered, those got delayed when a truck had some mechanicals in Arizona. So I should have them on Monday.

No ghost watts on my power meters. That would be really annoying, especially considering that I spend a lot of time coasting, as it's really easy to spin out on many of the local descents.

Dura-Ace 9100 hoods.

Look what just arrived in stock at 1:06am this morning Pacific Time:
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brake-le...ers-y0bf98010/

I had an email restock alert set up previously.
I found out they were back at 5am this morning when I woke up and rolled over to check my email. By 5:05am I had already bought 2.

Oh happy day!

They'll be spares for the new old stock ST-9100 shifters that just arrived from Japan to compliment the FD & RD-9100 derailleurs I bought on discount a few years ago but have seen little to no use. Finally(!) a matching group for my 2016 carbon wünderbike...and some spares so I know I can put the set into use for the long haul worry free.

(For the benefit of younger readers: Shifting used to be done with long metal strings. I'll make the move to the new fangled "modern" way of shifting via a limited supply of electrons stored via chemical reaction, electromotive force, radio waves, stepper motors, and hope when I'm dead.)
