Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I do what I can...

So I had some Hope calipers and rotors which are on back order for my CheckPoint. but the front caliper and getting pushed back even further, so I opted to cancel all of it.

However, as luck would have it, between a visa gift card through my employer benefits program, discounts for prior purchases and then a returning customer discount code, I was able to score the new SRAM Red AXS shifters\brakes, Force XPLR RD, and Force XPLR cassette 10-44 for just a bit over $1200, which is less than what the Shifters cost on their own. Going to replace the Rival stuff I have on my CheckPoint. I took a ride on a bike that had those new shifters on it and I knew I would eventually get them, so figured I would take advantage while I could.

Supacaz cages. They were super cheap on Amazon. $5.99ea if I recall correctly. Initially I thought they were going to be difficult for getting bottles in/out but finding that isn't the case. Working out pretty well so far.

If you knew me, then you would totally get it. Think about what I constantly complain about, and factor in when would I actually ride a MTB. We have decent trails but I don’t want to ride on MTB trails at 4 am. Richmond has better trails but getting up there only happens once every 3 months. And on top of that, when I get the okay to ride all day, I want to go to the blue ridge and either do road or gravel. I’m not bringing a MTB. I have access to a vitus nucleus or whatever I can get for cheap i’ll pick up one day. I also have that Epic that is mine but is in pieces.

Fair enough. Visibility is important in MTB. A lighted night ride can be fun, but ya IDK about doing dark rides regularly. Gotta tone down the "send" a little bit.

Theres a guy on my team, we ride the exact same size bikes, I mean down to the set up. I can hop on one of his bikes and be good to go. He let me borrow his S works stump something for over 6 months. I would still have it, if I had room. I rode it one time.

This thing speaks dirty to me. I have no idea how I am going to mount a light on this.

Does your headlight have a go pro mount option? thinking most due at this point, but I have the K-Edge with the go pro lower mount option on my bikes, works like a champ. I am assuming BMC has something that will work with those bars similar to the other brands and their one piece bars.

The upside of spending money on my little hobby is earning more points which gives you more discounts. Hello, my name is Brian and I have a buying problem here lately. I swear I can stop whenever I want. I went ahead and picked up the new SRAM Red crank arms as they will work with my existing quarq spider power meter and 1x chain ring I currently have. Used the points I earned yesterday to get a pretty hefty discount on it and earned some more discount points for my next order when ever that will be. I am pretty sure that is it for now.

The only one BMC has in stock is just the head unit option. They have another one with the go pro mount but it’s sold out and I am not clear if it even fits the 2024 evo bars or if it’s for last years model.

This is where only buying treks was nice, just dealing with the trek store. Technically I am still working with the same person, but it’s like a go between, where he was all knowing when it came to trek, I would be shocked if he was all knowing when it comes to BMC.

that is a downside to the proprietary parts. Is your mount inside the front of the stem or screws in underneath?

underneath from what I can tell. I think there’s a channel underneath and the mount for support runs the length of channel, before popping out enough in the front to hold the unit.

Fancy, but sold out. Seems to be a theme. In a couple of months it will be dark during my whole ride, I typically run my bontrager helmet with a light mount then, i’ll just run that now when I need a light.

All 5 of my other bikes, Ritchey included, run bontrager stems because of the light situation.

Almost bought an enve stem a couple weeks ago, bailed when I couldn’t figure out what I would do with my lights. Mounting them on the bars is not attractive.

These guy never run out, they actually print them for you. This is the place I got my varia mounts from. Takes about a week for them to process , but they are solid.

I've got a couple of the 4iiiis, good power meters. Although the Precision 3 whatever it's called, that came on my most recent Canyon, was having issues dropping power. 4iiii's customer service was awesome, sent me out a new crank arm, and I was able to send the old one back after it arrived.

I actually have a few power meters...4iiii and Favero Assiomos are awesome. Garmin Rally SPD pedals are a mild regret.

Thanks mate! Now the bmc website shows them in stock so I dunno what’s going on. Does the blender light mount fit into a go pro mount? Do you know by chance? Sounds too good to be true.

Not a fan of the garmin pedals either. Feel like they are going to break at any moment, and the battery life sucks.

Yep the do. The Bontrager use the Go Pro mounting standards... I have them on my K-Edge lower mount points.

For me, it's the (lack of) accuracy and how loose anything but brand new cleats are. I swap them frequently between my gravel bike and my XC bike, getting them swapped over is an inconvenience. They have to be torqued exactly to 34Nm or else they read very low. Gotta reset the crank angles before calibrating. Then calibrate them as soon as I put them on and go ride for 15 minutes with a good solid sprint effort, and then calibrate them again. Without doing that order of events, the accuracy is pretty bad on them.

Enough said about how they interface with the cleats...just a bit of sloppiness and clicking/popping.

I have not had the issues with the calibrating, or the torquing. The clear issues and the popping and squeaking all apply to mine.

Nice cheap socks from Amazon

Proper current road height, stretchy, not too thick, not too thin. Six pair for the cost of one Swiftwick. Pack of three colors will cover you for before and after Labor Day, plus gray for when you are confused.
