Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yeah there are mens/womens specific saddles.
What type of riding is she doing?
I'd suggest something like a Terry Fly, or Damselfly.

the best thing is just get out there and let her
test different saddles.

Our shop does really well selling the womens' Serfas saddles. Head out to your LBS-they should let her try a bunch of different ones until she finds one she's happy with.

I'd suggest a Terry. A Liberator if she's more of a casual cyclist and wants something a little wider, or the Butterfly (womens version of the Fly) for something a little more performance oriented.

I'm running a Fly right now and my wife has a Lib. and we both love them.

Impossible to say what she will like.

In my own business I tend to get many ladies that like the Selle Italia models.

The shop I manage on weekends we move more Serfas and Terry models.

So it will be in those 3 brands.

The flip answer is,"get her the saddle that fits".
The explanation is this: some LBS will set up saddles on the in store trainers and actually let you try one. If a shop doesn't offer that option, ask. Otherwise move on to another shop. The last 2 saddles that I bought were done this way. They are different models, but both are "all day" saddles. Nothing worse than a saddle that is a "30 miler".
Nothing more personal in choice than a saddle, so don't suprise anyone with a gift unless it is a model that they have been using.
