Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I Hate Clichés

I recently decided to treat myself and bought a new set of Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires on Ebay. Sure enough, ten miles into my first ride with them I hit a nail. The rear tire is completely dead, but at least I was lucky enough not to fall after it exploded.

I passed another rider just a few minutes before this happened. When he stopped to make sure I could get home, he told me he heard the tire pop from about 100 yards away.

Wow, that sucks! I had a fencing staple through a brand new tire on my mtb early this past summer. It didn't totally ruin the tire, but it definitely killed that tube.

Good thing you held it together, and that one of your fellow riders was kind enough to offer a hand.
