Two rain free days in a row. Can we make it three? To go along with this new phenomenon, humidity is down somewhat too.

We did not summit Mt Langley due to poor timing/planning - we arrived at the summit push too late in the day. But, we did get a nice ~22 mi loop with 3,000' elevation on foot. The second half of the loop in the Cottonwood Lakes basin was superb. There is a reason that is a quota trailhead, and why we had to take a big loop around to get there in the first place .
Old army pass (below Langley and above the lakes basin) is fantastic and probably the southernmost most high, rugged pass in the Sierras.
I'll toss up some photos later in the week I think. For now here's a Google photo with the route drawn on it (by me). It does get a little hairy towards the rock outcrops at the top, but nothing too wild. We were able to descent it with our loaded packs without too much trouble, albeit slowly.

On the way back I looked up the Bridge fire - which had thwarted my original plans for a lighter trip in the San Gabriels around Mount Baldy. There was no evidence of a fire in the San Gabriels when we drove south on 395, and I read that it is mostly contained now. Also the Baldy area was preserved - barely. Same with Mt High resort on the otherside - barely survived. Good for us SoCal folk.

I’m not surprised. I remember the areas above and below Rockwood being less developed.
stayed at Ludwig’s B&B in Blackwell (outstanding place btw)
bear went through the property two consecutive evenings - but missed it both times
little bear in the canoe was the next best thing
also - no rattlesnakes at Rattlesnake Rock - and no Bigfoot in Slate Run … gotta heck of a sandwich at Wolfe’s general store in Slate Run though

Version 7.0
We had a wonderful 16 days of Mallorca cycling. S tats for the trip were: 13 days in a row of cycling, 273 miles,11,000 feet of climbing - 5 climbs: Coll de Soller, 2 times Randa, Cap de Formentor, San Salvador, 4 recovery rides and 4 endurance rides. On the trip home, we flew through London with an overnight to break up the flying time. Two former BF members joined us and made the trip special. They rode their tandem and COMPlETELY erased any and all notions that tandems climb slower than single road bikes. They are fantastic cyclists.
My new bike worked perfectly. It is rare that a new purchase works exactly as advertised and promoted. IMO, the new Specialized SL 8 exceeded Specialized specifications. I fretted over how the new bike would pack in my bike case. Other than having to take off the rotors, the bike packed better than my Cervelo. I was concerned that the one piece handlebar / stem with the hydraulic cables would be a problem - it was not.
I converted the tires to tubeless for the trip and combination of the tires, wheels, frame and new saddle made the ride very smooth. Descending the mountain switchbacks were a piece of cake with the disc brakes. I had plenty of braking power without generating hand fatigue. This was not the case with rim brakes that I used on previous trips.
Here are a few pics.
