Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Has anyone found or used a bluetooth intercom? It would be great to be able to talk with another ride using earbuds. Thought about a cellphone, but there are lots of places where we ride with no cell phone service.

I find talking to other riders using ears rather than earbuds works pretty well.

World Tour team riders communicate with the team cars (and each other?) via DMR radios; just look for one that supports BlueTooth audio and mic button if you do not want to use a wired earpiece and mic.

I’m partial to talking using my mouth, but sometimes I talk out of a different orifice.

I suspect Mike Deason may be a Larry Sellerz alter ego?

Some friends have the helmet intercom thing. I don't know the brand but it works pretty well up to a quarter mile unless there is a hill blocking it. No earbuds, they have little speakers so those riding nearby can hear it.

Most of them are pretty heavy and are semi-permanently attached to the helmet. Anything Sena makes belongs in a toxic waste dump.

Handlebar mounts available, or probably not difficult to craft one?

Interesting technology, but a bit of overkill and pricey/heavy.

I’m hoping to find something that uses Bluetooth so there is a variety of headsets and microphones available.

It would be awesome to be able to communicate through my Bose Frames sunglasses.

We tried that. Still pulling pieces of red string out of the wheels and one of the cans makes folks think we just got married!

It can be used as a BT headphone (for a phone) but it seems it might not transmit to another BT headphone.

I've used the Zello Appon my phone which lets it act as a walkie-talkie. Of course you have to be in cell tower reception. The phone can stay tucked away in a pocket or bike bag if you have any headset or other microphone/speaker device connected to your phone. The bigger plus for me is that my wife at home can listen in to what's being talked about or even join in. You can add as many other to the group as you wish going through Zello.

I realize the OP said that they ride where phone service isn't available, but this might be useful for others.
