Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, I would never operate an aircraft without adequate rest. Commuting home is a different story.

Got home, all I wanted to do was take a nap, I really don’t like how my body operates when I am this tired. Right when I walked into the door I was rushed to change to go to my daughters soccer game. There the wife met a new friend, and we rushed home to change child number 1 so now we can rush out to meet my wife’s new friend. She needs more friends so I am trying to be supportive. All I can think about is sleep.

I think the reel mower is due for some maintenance, sure hope it's serviceable. I haven't done anything besides the occasional blade sharpening and cutting bar adjustment since I got it maybe 4 years ago.

At this point in my life, 8 hours uninterrupted sleep would have to be medically induced

We haven't done much exploring since moving to Albany in October, so we went out last night determined to find a cool hangout spot in our new city. We had two or three really cool spots we loved in the Hudson Valley, so it shouldn't be real hard to find a couple here. The spot we chose last night had good food, but the bar was paltry and the ambiance was staid. On the ten scale overall it's only a 5.5, maybe a 6 if I factor in the proximity to home, which is important for DUI considerations. So we're going to try some different places tonight, a good bar with mature, civilized clientele and a comfortable, yet lively atmosphere is essential.

At this point, I just hope I can get a ride in before it rains. Even if it’s only 10 miles. Was able to squeeze a 20 min nap in. Feel like a new person.

A team mate gave me a set of 105 spd sl pedals for free. So now I just need one more pair and all my bikes will be equipped. A local rider has a stages arm I am going to buy. That will go on the madone 2.0 and the garmin rally’s will go on the 5200. The only bike that will still need a power meter will the ritchey. Not really riding that right now. The kyriums I got for a good deal, the rear hub is wonky. I talked about it before, but it has play. When I went to adjust it, I was able to take a part the rear hub with my hands, no tools required. That doesn’t seem right, I think something is missing.

Selling my bass and surfboard. With the funds I’m either going to get Zondas or another set of super teams with aluminum braking surface.

So…it turns out I had a bit of pneumonia with my Covid bout. My race is June 3 and it feels like I’ve lost 6-8 weeks of endurance building. I might just switch down to a sprint, but even that’s a stretch from where I’m at now. No [beeping] way could I do an Oly right now.

Months of prep just down the tubes.

I wonder how Usain Bolt would have done on the velodrome or BMX.

His peak power was reported to be about 2600 Watts, or about 27.7 W/kg.

Compare that to elite track sprinters and BMX racers: 2500 Watts, 25-26 W/kg.

Hmm, pretty close.

Bear in mind running power is an iffy concept.

We had a mix of clouds and sprinkles on today’s ride.

I didn’t mind, I needed an excuse to clean/lube my drivetrain and now I have one.

BTW “thin” blood is not an actual medical term.

Most people on “blood thinners” like Coumadin/Xarelto/Eliquis/Heparin are taking anticoagulants which inhibit blood clotting, typically through blocking action of certain proteins in the blood that are involved in the coagulation cascade. Other “blood thinners” like aspirin or plavix work by inhibiting platelet function.

Thin blood could also conceivably refer to anemia and/or low proteins in the blood, but again this term is not medically accurate.
