Great course.
We were on the final climb/circuit at few months back while visiting Paris…
Didn’t know it was on the course for the road race.
Walking down the hill, which seems much steeper than the listed grades, my son looks at the cobbles and the hills and says - I can see MVP attacking WVA here in full anger to win the race.
And as predicted, that attack happened exactly where we were walking. Was cool to watch.

I thought I saw WVA and MVP off the front of the main group, then somehow Remco was in front them. Or was Remco already ahead of them ?

They got caught on the way down.
MVP tried again the second time but not with the same power, then he faded.
Remco at some point just stood up and rode away, bridged to the lone leader, then dropped him.

Not quite. Remco actually bridged across to a small group ahead of the peloton and then that group swept up the lone leader (Ben Healy). Remco then attacked the group and went clear with one rider in tow, who he eventually dropped too.
