Detached retina

Had a detached retina in my left eye started a week ago Monday. Then surgery on Friday with vitrectomy nad gas bubble exchange. I had some bleeding from blood vessels in the back they cleaned that out and then laser it back. I have to remain generally upright and sleep sitting up, I actually can ride on the trainer just no straining spin only. Anyone have this in the group?

I had the lesser condition, a retinal tear, which is a straightforward fix in an ophthalmological surgeon's office. I noticed sudden 'floaters' in my eye, got a referral from my GP to an opthamologist who sent me to the O-surgeon. He zapped it with a laser in a 10-minute office procedure. I took it easy the next two days then back on the bike after that. No issues since then (2020).

Yes mine started as PVD then that pull the retina off. They tried to laser back at the office then sent me to the retinal surgeon. I had a bleeding artery or view too so they he did the vitrectomy lasered the retina and then gas bubble. 13 days post op and so far so good. I can see 20/40 in the eye but the dilation all the time makes everything like looking out into mucky. This is my distance eye that hopefully will return to close to previous 20/25 vision. I can tell it is already sharper than the my right eye. I have been lucky so far. I had the big crash on 05/20/24 so still not back from that except on trainer inside.

FWIW, I'm 4 weeks into recovery from my fourth retinal surgery; 3 where I detached and the latest to remove scar tissue. All of this over two years. The gas bubble in the eye won't resolve until another 4-6 weeks and then will see what damage I've got this time.
I am okayed for trainer but no rides outside for a while. Pretty depressing as I'm missing the nicer days of summer. Will be October before I really get out again. I was just getting back after the May repair and now this. Waaaaaaaaaaaa

My gas bubble last 17 days shorter acting I believe than most. I go back next week to see the surgeon. My pressure in eye up a tittle but he was not worried about at all. I notice the dilation drops I used were cyclopentolate and they can cause this as week as higher pulse and blood pressure. I think it did for me but now no dilating drops.

There are two types of gas used, one shorter lasting and the other a couple of months. I had the short one a few years ago and it was about 21 days. My second was 9 weeks. I'm told the length increases a bit each repeat so I'm expecting about total of 10-12 weeks.
I just finished the drops as well, at 4 weeks. They were also dilating my eyes which made the vision around the bubble worse and made me pretty anxious. Hoping that dilation clears out in the next week or so. It doesn't go away that quickly either. I'm only off a day. Good luck on your recovery!

Had an 80% detachment and had it lasered back. Took about 6 years to getting passable vision in that eye - able to read an eye charts’ middle lines. Had an excellent retinal surgeon and the outcome only improves with time. I was really heavy into mountain biking with lots of drops and jolts at that time, and was advised to keep it easy for 6 mos post-op. After that I resumed where I left off with no ill effects. I passed the DMV vision test with my repaired eye, so either the test sucks or had a good repair.

Best of luck and heal quickly.
