Maybrook / Putnam Trail Connection
What was the thought when they put in the 2 steep staircases on the trail outside Brewster to connect the Maybrook / Putnam Trail ?
I know they are planning on eventually connecting the trail into Brewster but, a steep staircase instead of a ramp?
It was "fun" carrying my bike down the staircase in the heat on Tuesday

The north end of the Putnam line's R-o-W and the Harlem Line are (more or less) at the same elevation in Brewster; emphatically not so the Maybrook line. The actual rail junction between the Harlem and Maybrook R-o-W's is a bit north of Brewster - barely north of NY 312. (Bike Forum's auto-censor pruriently blocks this community's name.) Here, the two R-o-W's are at the same elevation.
In Brewster, I find access to / from the Maybrook R-o-W slightly north of Kobacker's Market (570 North Main St) works well for me.

I was riding towards Yonker and found the trailhead along RT 6/202 from Danbury
. Was informed of the staircase from another biker.
No mention of this on the Empire State Cue Sheets.

I've written to the NYS about this issue and still awaiting an answer.
I had the same type of problems when riding the Erie Canal and the Champlain Valley Trail

I'm unfamiliar with the 'steep staircases' to which you refer. Location?

There's a spur that runs into CT. They haven't done anything w/ the bridge that would connect the 2 parts and the only way to the road is a steep staircase. You're better off going down main st. (exit at Kobacker's) and then taking local roads through brewster to get to the other part. You can actually get on fairly easily by going up the Lia Honda driveway and cutting over on the grass. That section is also ridiculous because it ends in a high traffic area (I84 exit across from it).

This was a one time ride towards Yonkers, won't be doing this again.
Prev. rode the Maybrook, and completed the ride to the Walkway over the Hudson and back to Brewster
